6n Squad changes- as things stand

Post by MrK »

This was the AI squad...a lot can happen between now and then but given what you know now...what would you change ?

Forwards: Nicky Smith, Rob Evans, Wyn Jones; Tomas Francis, Samson Lee, Leon Brown; Kristian Dacey, Ken Owens, Elliot Dee; Jake Ball, Alun Wyn Jones, Seb Davies, Adam Beard, Cory Hill; Justin Tipuric, Sam Cross, Dan Lydiate, Taulupe Faletau, Aaron Shingler, Josh Navidi.

Backs: Gareth Davies, Rhys Webb, Aled Davies; Dan Biggar, Rhys Patchell, Rhys Priestland, Owen Williams; Hadleigh Parkes, Owen Watkin, Jonathan Davies, Tyler Morgan; Alex Cuthbert, Steffan Evans, Hallam Amos; Liam Williams, Leigh Halfpenny.

For Me

Forwards:
LH Evans, W Jones, Jenkins (assuming hes fit- - he still offers more than Smith who hasnt developed)
Hookers: Owens, Dacey, Dee - happy to stick with these 3 - Hope Elias pushes them hard - hope Baldwin is nowhere near
TH - Lee, Francis, Brown - as with the hookers - same as, but with the hope that Lee is fit - Assirati to challenge
2R - AWJ, Ball, Charteris, S Davies, B Davies - I dont think Hill and Beard offer enough, I think Charteris needs to be back in, Id persevere with Seb Davies and Id hope Bradley gets some game time - we need some ball carriers. for all the praising of AWJ we really need to find alternatives
BR: Moriaty, Shingler, Navidi, Tipuric, Warburton, Faletau - Navidi been a revelation and deserves to keep his place, the Cross experiment was a fail, on a personal call I wouldnt persevere with Lydiate -

9s - Webb, G Davies, A Davies - no need for change, although Id like to see T Williams involved
10s - Biggar, Priestland, Patchell (I hope Patchell gets some game time against SA) - Anscombe could well be in the mix too.
Centres - O Williams, S Williams, T Morgan, H Parkes - with JD2 out SW, TM and HO will be battling for the 13 shirt
Back 3- North, Amos, L Williams, Halfpenny, Evans - North will be back, but I worry for our lack of genuine pace with Amos/S Evans - is this Josh Adams kid any good ? In the spirit of picking on form and assuming they keep playing well - Id give Evans another go.

Obviously JD2 would be in if fit.

If I had to pick a starting 23 now

L Williams, North, T Morgan, O Williams, Halfpenny, Priestland, Webb
Evans, Owens, Lee, AWJ, Charteris, Moriaty, Navidi, Faletau

B: Dacey, Jenkins, Brown. Seb Davies, Tipuric, Davies, Patchell, Amos

By February, this will all be changed

Id mostly agree, but perhaps not with Shingler. He feels like a bit of a stop gap pending the return of better players and his habit of running into contact standing up isn’t a great one. I agree that probably not Lydiate, but perhaps one of the younger flankers instead. Shingler will make th next RWC but that’s about it.

I also forgot about Anscombe...If his form continues Id have him in the squad for sure.
