Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
People who bring compartmentalized plastic lunch boxes to the office and sit there with profoundly contemplative expressions on their faces as they munch away, the customary drink bottle set strategically in the foreground as an obvious fashion statement. They make my flesh crawl ...
If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

Dont hate on the Spongebob thermos.rowan wrote:People who bring compartmentalized plastic lunch boxes to the office and sit there with profoundly contemplative expressions on their faces as they munch away, the customary drink bottle set strategically in the foreground as an obvious fashion statement. It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.

Anything captured on a phone cam these days is considered headline news - and replayed ad infinitum. Like, I'm really interested in clumsy cats, messy infants and guys falling into dumpsters on the other side of the world when so much real news is going unreported

Who cares about illegal invasions, assassinations of activists and rampant corruption when you can watch water skiing squirrels and cats slipping on ice . . . ?!

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
Sagging if this hasn't been touched upon.
Perhaps I should rephrase that...
It's the urban dictionary term for men/boys who allow their pants to slip below the level of their undies, so that when they bend or stretch or perform whatever other theatrics are necessary you get an eyeful of waistband and either grimy off-white or bizarrely colored/patterned daks. I had one of these creepy exhibitionists stationed right in front of me as I was trying to enjoy my lunch in an outdoor restaurant today Now, I'm not averse to the young ladies indulging in this type of behavior, but guys just need to come to the terms with the fact their jocks will never be considered remotely sexy by anyone - least of all the ladies!
Still, it's better than hairy butt cleavage...

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

People who leave an empty roll on the toilet roll holder. Bring back the firing squad for those types, I say
& leaving a roll with barely one or two sheets left on it is even worse. You can just imagine their glee and self-justification at such a narrow escape from the dreaded obligation of having to actually change the toilet roll . . .

Taking a decent bottle of wine to a dinner party. Give it to the host and then it disappears, so we drink their cheap plonk, whilst they keep the carefully chosen, expensive wine for themselves. Bastards.

No idea, but Aficionados sounds very Spanish. Maybe he's tied up with the ENC World Cup qualifying saga. There's another thread for that (or three) . . .

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
I make a point of handing over a very mid-range bottle to the host on arrival and telling them, "that's a nice bottle that I found in [insert name of exclusive wine merchant or, better yet, some hill-top town in Umbria] so keep it and enjoy it yourselves on a special evening."welshsaint wrote:Taking a decent bottle of wine to a dinner party. They will do so, and as you say, serve up Aldi's centre aisle Cotes du Marne to people who, lets be honest, are too well-cut to tell a Moselle from a Bacardi Breezer.
It is some slight recompense knowing that as they snuggle down together on the sofa a few weeks later, hoping to get themselves sufficiently lubricated to do the conjugals, they will pop the cork on what is essentially a bottle of grape juice that didn't quite make the cut for the vinegar trade.
