Wasps having problems?
Bit of a hatchet job from the Mail I feel, fairly sure they did the same at a similar time in the season last year.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyu ... le-5657731
Launch, Daly and Wade threatening to leave (Launch and Daly signed extensions this season...).
Like eating in a pub every day (erm... sounds good to me!! Food is always rated excellent by new players too, doubt this is actually an issue).
Payments not being made is wrong, would want to hear about that. Training facilities are a pain too, that's been reported already by the club.
I'm glad to hear we did the right thing with regards to Sam Jones though (even if the article tries to paint it otherwise), paying him full whack for 17 months, rather than dropping his pay after 6 months as we could have done.

Those training facilities sound awful. Though, anyone who promised or thought they’d have new ones ready from scratch in under 3/4/5 years is naive, let alone in six months.
Late payments will piss anybody off. It’s why you go to work afterall.
Not sure what else they should’ve done with Jones. Hopefully, the RFU have coughed up a sizeable wedge.

Have Wasps ever had good training facilities? They seem to make a virtue out of using shagged out crap

Maybe they where expecting some progress though?Mellsblue wrote:Those training facilities sound awful. Though, anyone who promised or thought they’d have new ones ready from scratch in under 3/4/5 years is naive, let alone in six months.

Wasn't it meant to be end of last month?

It was meant to be a bit before that, then end of last month, then there was something else that apparently happened to delay it again.Tigersman wrote:Wasn't it meant to be end of last month?
Hoping it comes through this month.

A cynical person might suggest that SISU have a pet journalist at the Heil and are hoping to turn embarrassment into real problems for Wasps.

You would hope so, with all the recent negative press (Accounts, This, Johnson, Fines for AWC, fines by the prem granted small fines) they would want to but that to bed quickly.Raggs wrote:It was meant to be a bit before that, then end of last month, then there was something else that apparently happened to delay it again.Tigersman wrote:Wasn't it meant to be end of last month?

There is truth to some of it the players don't like the facilities, but the Fail have expanded on it with some "rumours" though

Re: Wasps having problems?
Hask did release a joking instagram story with Launch and Daly, laughing about how long the new facilities are taking. I do get the feeling that may have been the basis to a large amount of the story.
The suggestion that players are upset with the club for not paying Sam Jones after he's announced his retirement, especially after paying him fully for 17 months, makes me think that the article is stretching at times.

I don't understand how Jones' salary isn't covered by insurance, maybe PRA would like to make clear if they have any concerns in this area albeit without touching on the specifics of this case

Re: Wasps having problems?
Would be amazed if the majority of that piece was based on a instagram story posted what 12 hours or so before the news broke.
Foy might work for the Fail but he is fairly respected in the rugby circle on the whole.
It's obvious someone has feed him this info.
Is suspect this is just someone (In Wasps currently) feeding info to try to put pressure on Wasps.

They probably were and there does sound like there is progress in that sites are being sought, even if they are then discarded. Finding the land, design, seeking planning, tendering and then building something like this isn’t a simple process. I’d agree that after 3 years you’d at least hope they’d have secured at site. It was more the ‘six months’ I was quibbling about rather than where they are three years later.Tigersman wrote:Maybe they where expecting some progress though?Mellsblue wrote:Those training facilities sound awful. Majority maybe not, leading headline I could easily imagine.Tigersman wrote:Would be amazed if the majority of that piece was based on a instagram story posted what 12 hours or so before the news broke.

It then goes on about the food and eating in a pub, which does strike me as an easily taken quote from social media.
The accounts being late is well known anyway, and not new news.
The payments for image rights is new information, and probably the most interesting thing there in terms of bad news. Would love to hear more on it.

Re: Wasps having problems?
I think we'd also want to know how common late payments are to players more generally. Just 'cause Wasps aren't good doesn't mean others aren't better. I know there have been problems at other clubs in the past, but that is a ways in the past rather than any current observation

Bristol broke ground earlier this year and due to be ready end 2019 on theirs, 3 - 5 years seems a bit slow...Mellsblue wrote: Those training facilities sound awful. Re: Wasps having problems?
Wasps players have been using the training facilities at local clubs around my area for a while, there is talk of them actually investing in the club I coach at to give them further options.... would be great if its true.

Re: Wasps having problems?
Wasps response is that each player has 2 years on the contract and they've no idea what the hell Foy is talking about with regards to image rights, and that there are no outstanding payments.

How long from Bristol starting to look for land to opening the doors? As that is what we are discussing. Wasps hadn’t even found a site - and still haven’t cos it’s a tricky process - when giving their six months promise. If the Bristol build takes two years then I’ll stick by anybody believing they’d have a new training facility in six months is not the smartest.jimKRFC wrote:Bristol broke ground earlier this year and due to be ready end 2019 on theirs, 3 - 5 years seems a bit slow...Mellsblue wrote: Those training facilities sound awful. Finding a suitable site and getting planning can take years and years. Longer than the build phase a lot of the time.

Indeed. It's more a PR mistake. You don't announce it until you've found where you're gonna put it. Even Quins didn't make that mistake!Mellsblue wrote:How long from Bristol starting to look for land to opening the doors? As that is what we are discussing. I assume the 6 months timetable revolved around sharing with some major local establishment, a university or similar, and that fell through. They can't have meant 6 months to do the lot on their own site

From the article:Digby wrote:I assume the 6 months timetable revolved around sharing with some major local establishment, a university or similar, and that fell through. They can't have meant 6 months to do the lot on their own site
‘Wasps moved to Coventry at the end of 2014, and owner Derek Richardson pledged that they would have to use a temporary training base for only six months, before a new, state-of-the-art HQ was ready.’
