Are you saying that because you watched it or is that just a general opinion of him? I assumed Racing still had a monster pack? I suppose with the French league it could well be a monster pack, but still not a good one.Adder wrote:Classic Russell, pulls of some beautiful tricks but not sure if can manage a game. Big issue with Racing this year is that their pack are not dominant and their 9s are poor (Machenaud is injured).Cameo wrote:Didnt watch it but Russell getting good reviews for performance in the rain vs Scarlets

Well I'm probably a bit harsh. The game in France is managed by the Scrum half, and Finn doesn't get much ball. He got the motm award for this game because he did a few neat tricks and no one else really shone.Mikey Brown wrote:Are you saying that because you watched it or is that just a general opinion of him? Their pack got demolished a few times in top 14 and they are struggling in rucks. They do have a few injuries though.

Well we wouldn't want him getting too used to either forward dominance or a scrum-half that's actually willing to give the ball quickly/regularly.

No Graham or Vellacott in the England squad so remain technically Scots abroad. Of course Graham will always be a scot abroad.

Finlay Christie playing for Tasman v Canterbury at the moment. 15 minutes left, 16-16.
The other scrum half who just scored (controversially) is called Mitchell Drummond. Surely some connection there?!

Chib Thomson playing well for Scarlets from when I’ve flicked over to watch it. He did manage to drop the ball over the line, but had a couple of Leicester players on his back at the time, so I’ll let him off.

Kerr came on and threw some good arrows too. One to keep an eye on. At 22 he may be the next hope at hooker.

I keep subconsciously calling him Boris after "Boris the blade".General Zod wrote:Chib Thomson playing well for Scarlets from when I’ve flicked over to watch it. He did manage to drop the ball over the line, but had a couple of Leicester players on his back at the time, so I’ll let him off.

Nah, I think his nickname is pretty firmly established as Chib now.

Listening to Newcastle against Montpellier on the radio and apparently Jonny Williams is Scots qualified. Anyone know if true?
If it is we should cap him immediately as the long term heir to Dunbar before England get there.

Yep, people on the EMB are already concerned about this (and EJ not spotting) so that's probably a good sign.switchskier wrote:Listening to Newcastle against Montpellier on the radio and apparently Jonny Williams is Scots qualified. Anyone know if true?

I didn't know that. If that's true he should be in the squad ahead of Scott based on this season. He looks very good.switchskier wrote:Listening to Newcastle against Montpellier on the radio and apparently Jonny Williams is Scots qualified. Anyone know if true?

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
Has Scott not been up to it? I’ve only seen highlights and he’s often looked quite heavily involved, but that’s. E problem with highlights. This really would have been his chance to demand selection at 12 again with Dunbar/Horne/Grigg so inconsistent and Taylor injures.
Williams seems to offer a big threat up the middle which is something (I may have mentioned a few 100 times) we could really do with.

Tbf Scott looked quite handy yesterday. Good to see him getting back into some form. Meanwhile in the west, Huw Jones is now playing for Weeg the way we’ve seen him operate for ScotlandBig D wrote:I didn't know that. Sort of like Hogg a few years back, he’s too lethal in attack to even consider ditching, but really seems to lose concentration at times. He’ll be world class if he can iron that out.ARM wrote:Tbf Scott looked quite handy yesterday. Good to see him getting back into some form. Williams qualifies for all 4 home nations iirc. The only one I’m not 100% on is Ireland.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Murray Douglas signed a 2 year deal with the Brumbies. His 3rd Super Rugby contract.

Interesting to see Jake Kerr on the bench for Leicester. Heard really positive things about him.
I also see that half of the Newcastle pack is Scottish.

Kerr came off bench in their Euro game and was very good. Not bad for for a lad that went down south for uni rather than rugby.

Think Dingwall the Northampton centre is Scottish. He scored today.
