Petition opposing Boris’ move online and growing fast. Not that it will do any good.

Re: Snap General Election called
I have to confess to being slightly shocked and surprised that we’ve got to the point where an unelected PM has suspended Parliament so that he can force through legislation that leaves the UK isolated and exposed.
To say that this has the uncomfortable feeling of a coup by a group of narrow interests is putting it mildly.

If you're a sane Tory, or a sane Republican it's hard to know what you do right now. There are some clear political differences between the Tories and the Lib Dems, so that's simply an impractical step for many.Sandydragon wrote:Ruth Davison about to resign- apparently.

The Queen. “Can’t break precedent” doesn’t really cut it in this situation. She really can’t just tell him to do one?Digby wrote:Is Boris trans?Mikey Brown wrote:What a stupid fucking whore she is.

No she can’t. That makes the story about her. By agreeing it she keeps to protocol and leaves the whole steaming pile squarely on Johnson’s shoulders.Mikey Brown wrote:The Queen. “Can’t break precedent” doesn’t really cut it in this situation. No, she can't. It'd be worse if we suddenly had a monarch acting as though they had a political role to fulfil, it's bad enough we've got Boris seeking a revolutionMikey Brown wrote:The Queen. “Can’t break precedent” doesn’t really cut it in this situation. Poor old Liz. First it turns out her son might be a sex criminal, now she has to rubber stamp this lunacy.
Constitutionally, I guess that if she really felt she could not accept the advice of her responsible ministers then she would have to abdicate or it’s off with her head, at least metaphorically.
Does anyone know what Charlie “I wish I was a tampon” Windsor thinks of Brexit?

"The UK is on the verge of one of the significant events in modern British history - departure from EU without any deal
Nobody in good faith can say it is acceptable for Parliament to be shut down completely for six of the few weeks left
There is no good reason for this"
David Allen Green, right as usual.

Let's file that along with "proroguing Parliament for 5 weeks is only about preparing for the Queen's speech" in the box marked Tory Lies.

Boris will speak to us in a little under 15 minutes, the subject could be anything, and I picked the snap general election thread merely to amuse myself

Do you think we ought to start a new one? After all, we do a new Transfer Rumours thread every year for the sake of the database, we may as well do a new election thread each year for each new vote.Digby wrote:Boris will speak to us in a little under 15 minutes, the subject could be anything, and I picked the snap general election thread merely to amuse myself

So if tomorrow's bill passed he won't abide by it, but doesn't say how hell side-step it

Well that was five minutes of fuck all. Back me or else it will be bad and the country won’t forgive you, is basically what the message was.
I think the government is likely to be defeated tomorrow, unless Labour MPs who want Brexit don’t hold their discipline.

Aye. I suspect he will call a snap general election before the end of October so a new parliament could overturn it.Which Tyler wrote:So if tomorrow's bill passed he won't abide by it, but doesn't say how hell side-step it

is that indeed, it's like being 10-11 back in school with people dancing around the subject of whether someone fancied them, ffs you're the PM, grow up and grow a pairWhich Tyler wrote:Don't forget "remember all this non-existent money we've promised to give you - remember we did that BEFORE campaigning in an election - honest guvSandydragon wrote:Well that was five minutes of fuck all. also to note the money they're planning to spend is very much a budget for Boris rather than for Britain, feck all of the extra spend is on what they think the country needs (say the Justice department or Social Workers) and is all targeted at what their polling information tells them

It's not just that, it's pretty much an equivalent of the £350m the UK won't be getting back from the EU...Digby wrote:is that indeed, it's like being 10-11 back in school with people dancing around the subject of whether someone fancied them, ffs you're the PM, grow up and grow a pairWhich Tyler wrote:Don't forget "remember all this non-existent money we've promised to give you - remember we did that BEFORE campaigning in an election - honest guvSandydragon wrote:Well that was five minutes of fuck all. I honestly have no idea what life is going to be like and I'm glad I live in the EU. Come 1 year's time, it's quite possible I will have 3 nationalities, which is just insane. Now I can play pro rugby for 3 different countries.
Well, except for the fact I'm shit at playing rugby.

Are you a scrum half? Given Youngs’ performance against Ireland, I reckon you’ve a big chance of getting capped. If one of your nationalities is one of SANZAR it’s a near certainty.Stom wrote:It's not just that, it's pretty much an equivalent of the £350m the UK won't be getting back from the EU...Digby wrote:is that indeed, it's like being 10-11 back in school with people dancing around the subject of whether someone fancied them, ffs you're the PM, grow up and grow a pairWhich Tyler wrote: Don't forget "remember all this non-existent money we've promised to give you - remember we did that BEFORE campaigning in an election - honest guv

In his defence, £1 billion of it is to plug the hole in the social care budget, as set out by the Local Government Association. Quite where this money, and the rest for the deluge of spending promises, is coming from I’ve no idea.Digby wrote:is that indeed, it's like being 10-11 back in school with people dancing around the subject of whether someone fancied them, ffs you're the PM, grow up and grow a pairWhich Tyler wrote:Don't forget "remember all this non-existent money we've promised to give you - remember we did that BEFORE campaigning in an election - honest guvSandydragon wrote:Well that was five minutes of fuck all.
