Nadal is a bit different to the others in that he was a manufactured tennis player, almost. His family thought being a leftie would give him an advantage so made him train that way.Digby wrote:Darren Gough is left handed, Nadal right handed.Banquo wrote:Phil Mickelson is right handed.Stom wrote:

And for those interested I used to be able to kick off either foot albeit with a bias for the right, and I'd jump off the left foot in high jump or long jump, and my father used to write and bowl right handed but bat left handed (if what he did could be described as batting)

Re: EPS Watch / Player Form Thread
Nadal must have had some leaning that way, and I don't know Nadal thinks of it that he was forced to be left-handed, more he played two handed both sides and was told to choose a forehand side and went with the one that felt natural enough in addition to some notion left handed players have an advantageStom wrote:Nadal is a bit different to the others in that he was a manufactured tennis player, almost. I know beyond jumping off my left I'll do a lot of everyday tasks left handed, I'll pour left handed all things being equal, I'll tend to carry things left handed. I used to write both right and left handed until by age 4 or so I'd largely given up using the left as the world was setup for right handed people, and it's unlikely I'm unique in a world of 7-8 billion people

Gower is right handed I believe. Interestingly, there is a school of cricket thought that all right handers should bat as left handers do.....Digby wrote:Darren Gough is left handed, Nadal right handed.Banquo wrote:Phil Mickelson is right handed.Stom wrote:

is that to have the dominant hand higher up controlling the shot, or something to do with lining up the ball? I would assume the first, partly as I seem to recall it being discussed

Yeah. "Power" players tend to have their bottom hand take over and end up out of control. By switching around, their dominant hand is controlling instead.Digby wrote:is that to have the dominant hand higher up controlling the shot, or something to do with lining up the ball? At least that's what I was told.

Given Eddie's reputation for breaking players -I thought this might be of interest (bad language warning):

Yep. I remember thinking ‘well done Eddie’ when listening to that in the car.

Just heard that Richard Wigglesworth is working with Canada on their defence. Does this mean he can still get called up, even though he's in country?

While you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, this game is not giving a good advertisement for his coaching skills.Raggs wrote:Just heard that Richard Wigglesworth is working with Canada on their defence. Does this mean he can still get called up, even though he's in country?

I couldn't physically bear to listen past the 3 minute mark. Was the point he was making there that EJ pays attention when they say they feel like shit?Which Tyler wrote:Given Eddie's reputation for breaking players -I thought this might be of interest (bad language warning):
The bit that really jumped out to me was detailing what they do on each day of the week, there's weights and breakdown work and set-piece etc. You also get a day off/skills...

And that he changes plans for the day/sets personalised activities based around how players say they're doing and what tweaks and aches they're feeling. He then compared that to John Wells who regarded declaring injury or illness as a weakness and required everyone to do his proscribed session every day.Mikey Brown wrote:I couldn't physically bear to listen past the 3 minute mark. Aha, well that's more encouraging. I thought he was just going off on a tangent while trying to say that EJ actually reads the sheets. There's something about his voice that makes my brain just switch off completely.Puja wrote:And that he changes plans for the day/sets personalised activities based around how players say they're doing and what tweaks and aches they're feeling. It seemed to be more that the coaches don't look at the sheet, the doctor does, and in other regimes, the coaches never asked the doctors, or the doctors never passed on the info.

Martina Navratilova writes with her right hand and plays tennis with her left. Weirdo.

I’m watching the Premiership Cup highlights from the weekend and it reminded me of something I meant to post on Saturday ...
Brad Shields looked very good !! I know it’s only the Premiership Cup, but he looked like a different player.
Jack Willis also made an excellent cameo.

Shields looked good through the whole game. Some very good carries, and generally very busy. Obviously tempered with the level of the game.
I love Willis.

I've actually just finished watching my recording of the game and can confirm that Willis is back and looks like he's never been away. He's a ridiculous talent and I cannot wait to see him in an England shirt.

I don’t even get how having Hill, Dombrandt, 2 x Willis, 2 x Curry, Underhill is meant to work. And now I hear the mighty Brad Shields is actually showing some form.

He’s only allowed to play at 8, even for his club, in case Billy gets injured and he’s forgotten what to do.
We don’t want to end up with a retreating scrum on our line where the ball needs controlling but he’s haring off trying to tackle their fly-half.

I don't even get how the Sale back row is supposed to work this year, let alone England. They've got BCurry, TCurry, Wilson, Ross, and at least 2 du Preez (I lose count).Banquo wrote:Poor old Wilson.Mikey Brown wrote:I don’t even get how having Hill, Dombrandt, 2 x Willis, 2 x Curry, Underhill is meant to work.
