Re: Trump
Apparently, Erdogan put the letter in the bin.
Which would seem to indicate that the letter was genuine and that is how Trump believes international diplomacy is conducted.
Incredible.

Re: Trump
That is an embarrassment. Apparently his team have “done a deal” with Turkey whereby the Kurds have five days to GTF out of Dodge and Turkey strolls in and takes the territory just like that. Erdogan must be thinking “how easy was that”?

All the while, Trump will be thinking he brokered a peace deal [emoji848]morepork wrote:That is an embarrassment. Re: Trump
He was not played. He just did not think of the consequences and had to put some remedy. Turkey gets what they want, similar to Germany and the Sudets (and in case you did not know, the Sudets included all fortifications that would have made an invasion difficult. Same here).
Apparently the Kurd leaders stated that the US gave them “guarantees”.
This is a hasty damage reduction, and now he plays it as if he deserves a Nobel price, salesman style.
Did he mention that cache of ammunition and weapons the US left behind and had to bomb to destroy? This withdrawal was not planned; it is more of an evacuation.

There was a clip on the news of him making a speech, or at least what passes for a speech with him. He was talking about letting children fight it out before the parent intervenes.morepork wrote:That is an embarrassment. You have to hand it to him though...bloody impressive going out there to Syranesia and killing that Hindu terrorist with his nine iron. Most people with bone spurs wouldn't even have tried it.

His big men with guns, he calls them soldiers, wouldn't use a door bell but did blow a beautiful hole in the wall. And if anyone hasn't seen his press conference whilst that previous sentence isn't verbatim it captures some of the tone.
(There's a chance he's again released classified info in his press conference)

And as ever there's a Trump tweet for the situation wherein he's stated Obama gets far too much credit for the killing of Bin Laden and all the credit should go the militaryBanquo wrote:great video doing the rounds comparing this with Obama's announcement re Bin LadenDigby wrote:His big men with guns, he calls them soldiers, wouldn't use a door bell but did blow a beautiful hole in the wall. Re: Trump
I've actually only just heard the transcript of the call which the Whitehouse put out which of itself incriminates Trump is itself heavily edited, the real call being much worse for Trump. And for his speaking about this team Trump are now trying to dismantle the achievements of a decades long serving decorated army officer, labelling him a spy and a traitor. Trump is obviously an idiot, but for shame anyone who supports/defends him in this ongoing lunacy

What the GOP is doing is contemptible. A complete lack of decency as humans, but also a big fuck off to Americans and the constitution...all to defend a person they know is guilty.

Re: Trump
Actually so far a number of GOP members are actually seeming rather alarmed by Trump's latest. Even Moscow Mitch has stepped up to speak for the patriotism of the witnesses being called, and he's not the only one. Of course a lot of GOP members in both houses will try to avoid saying anything on this

Re: Trump
I expect quite a few GOP members are alarmed by things, but every single one voted against the recent impeachment procedure vote. Not many are speaking out against Trump and what he is accused of doing. In fact, there seems to be a orchestrated effort to derail the proceedings and discredit witnesses speaking against Trump.Digby wrote:Actually so far a number of GOP members are actually seeming rather alarmed by Trump's latest. Re: Trump
House Republicans are the worst. They aren't quite far enough up the greasy pole for a Presidential run to be likely to succeed or for there to be enough grift for them and Trump could destroy them with a tweet. The Senate is what matters. The reality is that the Republicans will stick with him until the polls flip and their private polling tells them that supporting him will lose them more votes than it wins. Whither principle?WaspInWales wrote:I expect quite a few GOP members are alarmed by things, but every single one voted against the recent impeachment procedure vote. No it wasn't. Not even slightly. If you believe this is normal then you're swallowing Trumps bullshit. There has been no point in American history where major party would sanction the use of $400 million of taxpayers money to blackmail another country to interfere in its elections.Banquo wrote:withered principles. Re: Trump
Well that’s quite the over reaction. I was merely implying that principles often get sacrificed in pursuit of political power. It’s hardly new or revelatory. Trump does take it to an obscene level.Eugene Wrayburn wrote:No it wasn't. Not even slightly. If you believe this is normal then you're swallowing Trumps bullshit. It beggars belief that any semi-functional human adult could consider this thundercunts remedial mewlings in any way shape or form a constructive contribution to government. He specialises in making a pig's arse out of everything he touches, can barely read and speak, and is frighteningly pig ignorant. Yet here we are, one year out from a general election, and the entire apparatus of government is shanghaied into covering for this blanket incompetence at the expense of practically everything else. It wouldn't make for the most favourable performance review anywhere else, so what the fuck do people see in this idiot?
