If only I’d put my repeated replies in a large, red font and used the words butthurt, sh!tcunt and bullsh!t mocked I’d have won this argument by now.
Thank goodness you’ve brought such a nuanced, intelligent perspective to the conversation.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm mocking you. Are you too much of a stupid and self-important shitcunt to tell the difference? Fuck, bro, I wasn't even being subtle about it.

Oh wait, I suppose my premise is that you're a self-important, gatekeeping tedious cunt. Not seeing much to refute that from your end, I guess.

Seoul may receive around half the visitors that London does, but that doesn't account for the massive disparity in the official death tolls, and has more to do with the quickly and aggressively taking decisive action in clamping down on the illness, and despite one dumbass megaspreader and another who ended up inadvertently shutting down the nightlife, they've managed to contain the disease effectively.

How does that compare to the pox party policy of the Tories?
We were comparing Eng&Wales v Scot. Not Eng&Wales v SK. Nobody on here has said that the U.K. has done better than SK. I know you’re late to this RR ‘party’ but take your schadenfreude, false equivalences and party politics bs elsewhere.
I think that simply pointing out the stats which show London has had greater incidence adds much to the debate. The question has to be why it is different to the rest of the uk.

Cas has addressed population density by showing covid can be far more effectively managed in far dense population centres. I not sure why that put so much sand in your crack.

Cas also mentioned how many visitors London has. This could be a reason maybe. I doubt it.

For UKIP, brexit party and, since Boris was leader, Tory voters the problem is probably that London is full of “forrins “ and they have watered down the British bulldog spirit that we all know can fight off any virus or recession.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Haha.

And I came in here worried that I may be disturbing important conversations by posting a stupid tweet in this thread.

Anyway...

Anyway, there's a clear pattern when you look at countries that have comparable population density and contrasting actions taken by their respective governments.

Sweden's reaction has been largely passive, and have "trusted their population to self-manage," taking a fairly hands-off policy.

Estonia took a far more heavy-handed approach, closing their borders to all but citizens, residents + family, and transport workers carrying freight, and entire sections of the country were closed off to anyone other than residents. There's been 2m of mandatory social distancing, and there's been very tight restrictions on public gatherings (no more than 2). Recreation and leisure establishments, and daycares were also closed.

These are the Google Official numbers as of about last week.

Once this had blown through, the pandemic control book will have been completely re-written, with special sections presumably for countries with new ethnically diverse mega-cities, and international travel.
Imagine another Smallpox outbreak like the 70''s (B'ham)..
If your comparing apples with apples, then Germany is so far the stand-out comparator...though other factors like human genetics, local disease history/management, Covid strains etc are unknowns atm.

This is dangerously close to a sensible comment.

MODS DO SOMETHING this man is not being a shouty princess and clearly has no place on this thread.

I don't think a complete rewrite is on the cards. Most of the successful actions have been from pre-existing pandemic plans.

The (metaphorical) control book will get an update, maybe a new chapter on technology, but that's about all.

If my area is anything to go by, social distancing and govt guidelines have been torn up. And we are a compliant, low infection area. Fck knows what London will be like.

Sure, operational rules and guidelines are in for a shake-up, certainly in a country which has responded very poorly. I assumed Galfon was talking more about high-level/strategic approaches to pandemics, worldwide.

I wasn't referring to that, hence not quoting it
My kids met up in Laandan as per new guidance....and Clapham Common was seething with bodies. A pub not far from me has opened its beer garden as a takeaway.

I fear our people's 'common sense' is not a thing.

Fair enough - completely different point! :)

Yeah, London. They haven't gone completely insane in my neck of the woods, just on the edge of London, but yeah, I hate to think what's going on centrally. My Oyster card will continue to gather dust for a while.

Pretty much. They are armed to the teeth, however, so there is that. What I wouldn’t give for some taro and oka at the Otara market right now...

Don’t forget the BNP in that. Their website has some very interesting webcasts.

Did you know that governments are putting nano tracking tech into vaccines?
