Wales have a great chance to go a long way in this tournament now. Croatia, Poland, Belgium/Sweden/RoI are good enough teams on their day but certainly not in the same league as Germany, Spain/Italy and home favourites France.

Woy is defiant as ever on his selections against Slovenia:

I would have maybe had some regrets if we hadn't played well and dominated the game and controlled it
Wise words indeed Woy.

We need goals ffs!

So by his logic, Spain will be over the moon because they dominated possession against Croatia?

It doesn't help that the press are already sharpening their knives. Looking for, and possibly creating division in the squad. I get the feeling the following picture will be doing the rounds for a while:

I agree wasp but I do sympathise with him slightly. If you read the foreign press they are all pretty complimentary about england's performances. We have played three teams which put 8 men behind the ball. We have all the possession and a stupid amount of shots on goal.

Yeah obviously though it is the result that counts. That is football. I just feel like the press in this country is so toxic, they just want blood. It's all going to come down to a game with france which we will probably lose but at least they will push out from their half occasionally. :)

It has been tough but you would think England would have the resources and players available capable of breaking down Russia and Slovenia. In the next round, I expect Hungary, Iceland or Austria to play with the same defensive mentality. Portugal are likely to have a go at getting the ball to Ronaldo so we may see more space in the opposition's half then.

I have little sympathy for Woy. His decision to rest players and start others way short of match fitness was always going to backfire...in a match where a win would've given us a great chance to progress to the business end of the tournament. Kane on all set pieces was another master stroke. I'm struggling to recall one decent delivery from a corner or free kick. I'd like to see him be a little more bold in his approach to the next match. A Dier, Rooney, Barkely and Alli midfield ticks a lot of attacking boxes. Rashford and Vardy upfront has the pace to put any defence on the back foot and the ability to finish. I have been mildly impressed with our defence on the whole, though it's fair to say they haven't had much to do at times and against Wales, they left Bale unmarked for a couple of free headers.

Agree about the press though. The moment we qualified with 10 from 10, anything but topping the group was always going to elicit a negative reaction. More so, as Wales have topped the group and assured themselves of an easier route and scoring 3 against Russia in the process.

It's not over by any means and perhaps the defence orientated opposition in the group stage may help us in the long run?

What would England like to see for group F then?

Portugal to win tonight and the other match to finish a draw?

That would give us Hungary in the next round.

Lots of other permutations possible though.

How does it work? Surely finishing second in the group should mean England plays the top placed finisher of another group?

Aye, I agree but due to the extended nature of the tournament, this is what they've come up with.

I'll be surprised if Hungary finish the match with 11 players on the pitch. They've already picked up 3 yellows and Atkinson seems willing to dish them out.

Double the amount of goals in this match than England have scored in the tournament so far.

Still over 20 minutes left in this match as well.
