I was talking to someone I'd normally consider sane who queued all Wednesday night and found it an uplifting experience. But then, suffering does bring people together.
But that was just an all-nighter. By the weekend I assume the queue will take a whole weekend to traverse.

I don't get it. I would happily pay my respect to the queen but that is beyond madness. And given that planning for this has been in place for decades, is this really the best idea they could come up with?Son of Mathonwy wrote:Yes.Mikey Brown wrote:Are people really just taking several days off to torture themselves standing in line, going without sleep or proper nourishment, to gawp at a dead stranger?![]()

I bet St Johns ambulance are pretty busy; thankfully the weather is pretty moderate at the moment.

You've raised a point that I hadn't thought of, which is that the queue itself is a communal experience and I'd imagine bonding and sharing it with the people around you. Still wouldn't catch me doing it, but if you're deeply affected by the Queen's death, then I guess it's more than just the minute's shuffle past a box.

There are quite a few heart warming, and comedic, stories coming out of The Queue.
If I put on my Eng Lit A level hat, I’m enjoying the symbolism. Beyond the obvious fact that we bloody love a queue, it resembles quite a few of the characteristics the British public and, daring to put my head above the parapet again, the Queen are famous for.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Not great optics but I guess there's a protocol for royal offspring and their duties in the event of a death.morepork wrote:Andrew seems to have slipped in through the back door pretty fuckin quickly. Great optics.
I will become a much bigger fan of Charles if his first act as King is to get Andrew to absolute fuck.
