The study, published this month in Conservation Science and Practice, analyzed cryptic mortality of right whales. Cryptic mortality refers to deaths resulting from human activities that do not result in an observed carcass....
The scientists concluded that known deaths of the critically endangered species accounted for only 36% of all estimated death from 1990 to 2017.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
Don't know if this is real, although no reason to suspect it isn't. It tells its own story.

No reason to doubt it.
From what I can tell...
CO2 acting as a greenhouse gas was discovered in 1859 (John Tyndall).
CO2 (specifically from burning fossil fuels) influencing the global climate was theorised in 1896 (Svante Arrhenius).
"Global warming" first proven in 1938, with CO2 identified as the likely culprit (Guy Callendar).
New Zealand’s sea turtle bycatch tripled in the fishing year 2020 - 2021, based on the previous decade average. The majority of the turtles caught were critically endangered leatherback turtles

"Record profits are salt in the wound when we’ve seen that fossil fuel companies have successfully lobbied G20 governments for $151bn on top of their profit.
They also spend nearly $200m a year lobbying to delay policies to tackle climate change."

When Extreme Weather Reigns, Disinformation Pours
As heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and flooding hit countries worldwide, climate deniers and those obstructing climate action deny or downplay extreme weather’s climate connection.

“There is nothing in world climatic history which is even minimally comparable to what is happening in China.”

I imagine something similar could be said about the current flooding in Pakistan too.
We're not far off the times when 100s of millions of people decide to move to land with fewer extreme weather issues. The precipice we're currently falling from isn't just an environmental one, it's a humanitarian one.

When you look into the amount of ice that is melting off the Greenland ice sheet alone, not including either of the polar caps or the glaciers in Europe/Asia/America, just Greenland, it is genuinely mind blowing.
A new study was apparently just released today in Nature Climate Change, finding that it's now inevitable that 110,000,000,000,000 tons of ice will melt in Greenland.

I'll have a large G and T with that. Have to drown your sorrows with this crap going on, and the big producers of greenhouse gases doing fuck all to stop.

We had our chance to make incremental changes, but that time is over. Only a root-and-branch transformation of our economies and societies can save us from accelerating climate disaster.
This finding demonstrates efficient photoelectrochemical CO2-to-fuel production coupled to plastic-to-chemical conversion as a promising and sustainable technology powered by sunlight.

We could do with some good news. Hope this process is efficient enough and scalable enough to be useful for the environment, particularly in carbon capture.
The heatwave currently encompassing most of the northern hemisphere is woefully underreported and genuinely, er, chilling.
