other than winning it, yes. And its not like you have to choose one or the other. And if you are welsh, scottish or irish....

Fair enough, I'll probably never understand it in the professional era. I suppose I just cannot accept the SH's right to declared and acknowledged superiority.

Unfortunately, they'd just point towards your own point, of the RWC (I know, you did say "acknowledged")

Again, fair comment. The NH's one RWC win is unlikely to be repeated until things change so I just have to accept it, I suppose. It was a massive shame that France could not win the last one to disturb the status quo.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 4:39 pmUnfortunately, they'd just point towards your own point, of the RWC (I know, you did say "acknowledged")

I think its gone well beyond that- its just a brilliant event for players and supporters, and something different from the somewhat relentless grind, which probably feels a bit joyless for players and coaches. The Pro era has done its best to suck all the fun out of Rugby

OK. I don't get it but I accept that's the way it is.Banquo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 5:06 pmI think its gone well beyond that- its just a brilliant event for players and supporters, and something different from the somewhat relentless grind, which probably feels a bit joyless for players and coaches. I thought professional sport was about winning. If ever I get to talk to BOD, I'll ask if he thought it was 'fun' when two NZ players tried to use him as a tent peg. That's the difference for me between NH and SH as things stand and, IMO, it will never change while the Lions continue.
That's enough on the subject from me.

It is about winning, but it was always really about the fun for me as a player, as I wasn't a pro. Much more fun when you win.Oakboy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 5:29 pmOK. I’ve lost my way on this thread. Am I right in thinking Oakboy will be spending July Down Under?

Yep. Having just read the DT and groaned myself hoarse at the depressing news items, I cIick on here and love the humour.
My 'grumpy old man' status has taken me well past long-haul flights - hassle at airports takes my BP to stratospheric levels. If I was up for travel to the SH, I'd actually prefer to follow the England tour to Argentina rather than support the jamboree in Australia. That probably condemns me to some sort of rugby tradition purgatory but I am an England supporter and proud of it.

I shouldn't bother. Strange minds (like mine) work strangely and that's all there is to it. I'm a bit slow at recognising switches from humour to serious and vice versa. MB fooled me at that point with seriousness, bless him.
