Rugby 2025 Game

Post by Puja »

A new rugby game has come out for the first time in forever and it looks like it's... not perfect.

Tim Swiel is apparently the fourth best player on the planet and definitely the best fly-half, which suggests he is an excellent signing for the Chicago Hounds in MLR. Penaud and Bielle-Biarrey all behind Daly, Steward, and Anthony Watson.

I'm not expecting Football Manager levels of nerdy research into their database, but for a game where they've gone around clubs and scanned the faces of hundreds of players to ensure accuracy of looks, they could've done a little bit of work into getting their skills ranking right.

Especailly when they try this kind of marketing tactic:

It's easy to scoff and say, "Well it's only a computer game," but Yank Football and basketball and football all draw in new fans with their digital representations and rugby could've done with doing much better, if only to mitigate the crushing disappointment any new Chicago fans have upon seeing their new superstar play for the first time.

I gave up on them quite a while ago. Beyond the talk about licensing of players, teams, kits, stadiums, faces, player ratings and stuff it seems like the actual mechanics of the game are a very low priority.

I don’t know if the game is simply too complicated or it just needs a ton more funding than it’s ever likely to get, at least compared to the big American sports.

Shame, but I haven’t even bothered really looking in to this one. I totally agree it could be huge for the sport if it were able to get even close to the traction with casual/non-fans as FIFA.
