Not really. Who would you have had on the bench in a 5:3 that would've made losing Lawrence significantly less disruptive?

Yeah, that was weird. There were a couple of occasions where that happened - MSmith not only didn't go under the posts, but actively ran 5m wider, and then Earl did the same for the last try. Not that it's likely to actually matter, but points difference could be important and it seems weird to not try to optimise a conversion where there's no risk.
