Pools drawn:
RWC 2027 - POOLS
Pool A: New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Hong Kong China
Pool B: South Africa, Italy, Georgia, Romania
Pool C: Argentina, Fiji, Spain, Canada
Pool D: Ireland, Scotland, Uruguay, Portugal
Pool E: France, Japan, USA, Samoa
Pool F: England, Wales, Tonga, Zimbabwe
That's about as good as it gets for England.
France, SA and NZ all on the other side of the draw.
IF we win the group, which basically means beat Wales then we likely get Italy, then the winner of Aus and Japan, and then the winner of Ireland or Agentina. If all games went to plan in terms of favourites winning each match.
That is about as good a route to the final as it is possible to have. Not easy by any stretch, but you'd take it. So would Ireland, Aus and Argentina.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2027
Looking at the Skyports website, it seems our likely QF opponents will be Australia apparently. Are NZ and France likely to meet at QF stage with the winners presumably facing SA in the SF? I can't find a definite format after the group stage.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2027
Likely path for us: Italy >> Australia >> Argentina* >> SA or France
It highly likely that SA and NZ meet in the QFs with the winner of that facing France in the SF.
*Ireland are the better team but there’s not much in it and QFs are their Kryptonite. I’d also argue that Argentina is a team on the rise vs. an Ireland squad with key players fighting Father Time.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2027
1/8 final:
New Zealand > Samoa
South Africa > Uruguay
Wales > Fiji
France > Scotland
Australia > Japan
England > Italy
Argentina > Tonga
Ireland > Georgia
1/4 final:
New Zealand = South Africa
Wales < France
Australia = England
Argentina > Ireland
1/2 Final:
NZ/SA v France
Aus/Eng v Argentina
So a 3-way battle for the winner, with England as losing finalists (though NZ may arrive knackered, and France may arrive having just played their final in the previous round - ALA 1999 & 2023)

Re: Rugby World Cup 2027
Not sure I’d call it even between England and Australia TBH. Even with home advantage, our recent record against them suggests we should win that.
They might improve under Kiss, but I think it’s factually accurate to say we’re currently building very nicely rather than simply an opinion.
Argentina vs. Ireland is more equal IMO.

I'd be wary of underestimating Aus in a home world cup, I also think they're currently better than they showed against us in the AIsScrumhead wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:42 am Not sure I’d call it even between England and Australia TBH. Ire v Arg would be in Ireland's favour anywhem but a world cup QF
All IMO, of course

You have to be happy with the draw. What actually happens is a different story.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2027
I definitely wouldn’t be underestimating them and they have a lot of potential to improve over the course of the next two years. However, I think they’re currently a bit overrated. Maybe better than they showed in the AIs, but a lot depends on Gordon or Lynagh coming good IMO.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:55 amI'd be wary of underestimating Aus in a home world cup, I also think they're currently better than they showed against us in the AIsScrumhead wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:42 am Not sure I’d call it even between England and Australia TBH. If we carry on with our current trajectory, we could be a very good side come 2027.
