Just something I've been playing with in my head, coming to the fore with Bath's team announcement v Munster.
What's the "best" XV your club could put out, using only players who came through your academy?
For the sake of starting point to the discussion - must have been playing age-grade rugby whilst at your club - so that rules out "well, technically"s like Guy Pepper, although it will still leave younger movers.
Bath:
1. Obano*
2. Dunn
3, AGriffin
4. Ewels
5. Richards
6. Bayliss
7. Staddon
8. Reid
09. Carr-Smith
10. Donoghue
11. SHarris
12. Butt
13. Ojomoh
14. Offiah*
15. De Glanville
16. Tuipulotu*/Frost, 17. Kirk, 18. Sela, 19. Cuckson, 20. Green
21. Le Roux*, 22. Linegar, 23. Hennessey
* Well, technically...
Obano arrived aged 19 after being rejected by Wasps
Offiah arrived aged 17 ater LIrish went bust
Tuipulotu arrived aged 18 after LIrish went bust
Le Roux came during the 2024 6N a couple of months before his 21st (I thought he was a year younger when I included him - if this is too much of a technicality, then it's Mear Jr here)

Oh go on then! Not sure if those with brackets next to their names count as "well, technically"s but dropped in brothers Manz and some senior dev team guys with England u18s/20s experience to cover if ruled ineligible.
Bloody strong homegrown pack as you'd expect from Tigers, considerably weaker homegrown backline, as you'd also expect from Tigers.
Tigers:
1. Archie van der Flier (joined the senior academy from Nottingham) (Cam Miell if not)
2. Charlie Clare
3. Joe Heyes
4. Cameron Henderson (played in the academy before moving to Glasgow and then returning) (Tom Manz if not)
5. George Martin
6. Ollie Chessum (played in the academy before moving to Nottingham and then returning) (Josh Manz if not)
7. Tommy Reffell
8. Emeka Ilione
9. JVP
10. Charlie Titcombe
11. George Pearson
12. Joseph Woodward
13. Will Wand (played in the academy before moving to Coventry and then returning) (Charlie Myall if not)
14. Jack Kinder
15. Freddie Steward

Re: Academy Graduate's XV
Under my first-draft "rules" it would depend on ages.charlesdeboeuf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 05, 2025 1:48 pm Not sure if those with brackets next to their names count as "well, technically"s
I'd argue that someone who was rejected at U16 level, but returned as a senior, = ineligible.
Someone who played U18, but moved ahead of U20, before returning = eligible.
Someone who played U20s, but moved before first senior appearance, then returned later = eligible.
Someone brought into the academy at U20s = eligible, but edge case if already making senior appearances.
Someone brought into the academy having graduated out of U20s = ineligible.
The rules are absolutely also up for discussion.
But I found the whole thing quite fun
Equally, for the sake of discussion, I'd be happy putting that Bath XV out in the Prem, and any individual from the bench - though the bench as a whole is fine for PWR, but a bit green for the Prem itself.

Could have Wells in there as well if we needed an extra lock, certainly better than Tom Manz as a back up to Henderson.charlesdeboeuf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 05, 2025 1:48 pm Oh go on then! Probably go for a 6:2 bench split as well given the forwards that aren't included but the lack of backs.
Unless you can call back academy grads that have left the club in which case we'd be looking a lot stronger.

Pretty much what Charlie has there then. Shame would have been nice to bolster it with Ford and Manu.
