Dalziel is finished with LS so I'd get him in and bin either Scott or the defence coach.
Or just let Cockerill pick as he knows what he is doing. If they can be Scottish, great. If not then too bad - turning Edinburgh around is priority number 1.
I would let Cockerill chose within reason, although he did hand pick Mauger for Tigers and that didn't work and the Tigers approach had a lot of promoting from within so that was either board influence or Cockerills method.

I imagine Cockerill will be pretty hands on so any forwards coach will be working closely to him so would see a Scottish coach (not Scott) as fairly low risk. So with that in mind I would be encouraging him to take on a younger Scottish "apprentice" with the hope of developing a Scottish coach to take over.

In many respects I think the backs coach is the one where Cockerill and the SRU need to get it right regardless of where the coach comes from as it isn't Cockerills area of expertise.
The obvious Scottish option would be Mike Blair but not sure he really has the experience given the turnaround job needed

I thought Mauger was a board choice? Happy to be corrected.

Admittedly from a fan forum recap of a "fan forum" with Simon Cohen and Ged Glynn. But I don't see any reason for both them and then the poster to lie (http://forum.leicestertigers.com/viewto ... 04#p661204):
Then SC gave background of the board. 11 people, 3 employees 8 non-executive. Two main sub committees Rugby and Finance. He sits on both. Also a "remuneration" sub committee was mentioned briefly.

Rugby sub committee is Ben Kay, Rory Underwood, Ged Glynn, Simon Cohen and Peter Tom.

SC says Cockerill was totally in charge of who he had as assistant coaches. "No issues" in 2013. O'Connor leaves slightly late in the day; several alternative on the table Cockerill chose to promote Burke. Starts okay, 2014 ends 1 point off home semi final then lose away semi in 78th minute. Disappointed but can see its close.

Next season starts v.poorly. Cockerill decided to "terminate the contract" of Burke, wanted Mauger and we got him. Thought he would be a good foil, knew there would be playing differences but wanted that. Last season unusual in that we started very well then declined in January onwards. Alarm bells started ringing, very concerned with performance in CC SF against Racing. Then Sarries SF too. Message was confused by "nuanced" differences, gap was perhaps 10%. All thought it could be closed but clearly wasn't being.
This bit was interesting as it shows how much detail pro clubs do on recruitment:
Second question was to Ged Glynn about how we recruit. The "main 4" of Cockerill, Glynn, Cohen and Mauger meet weekly to discuss the squad. Re-signings, academy promotions, long term needs, immediate needs etc. Now obviously only 3 men in the meetings. Director of rugby has final say on players and recruitment. Full stop.

Showed us his database of players we are actively scouting at the moment. Had a file for every position, by number, eg 1-15. Keep old databases etc. Looked at Maxime Mermoz, they have a video database of every game he has played this season and have the videos clipped into Key Performance Indicators i.e. passes, runs, tackles. KPIs vary by position. They review this and compare players to determine who they want etc.

Then scout "character" through contacts in the game, are they family based, drinker, gambler, etc. Again with Mermoz; Glynn knows Tom Whitford, Toulon team manager, from coaching him at Cambridge Uni a long time ago. Mermoz sound guy etc etc. Normally then Matt Cornwall comes into to sell Leicester and the off field aspects. Schools if applicable, social life, where they want to live.

Mermoz was signed within two days of Manu going down. Delay was Toulon dragging their feet just incase they needed him before 6N (in the end they did).

He should be allowed to pick his own team. Scots would be great but I agree with Greg.

Wasn't Kenny Murray basically an extra coach at Glasgow in order to gain pro experience?

Proof?

Sorry as off I meant , not head coach

Not very clear

Made me laugh, I can't lie

Also Hodge more or less said that Cockerill is the reason Turner is starting at 2 cause he hadn't got to see him play yet, so he is having input already.

Bit of character to pull that back at the end. But still was a pretty poor 80.

Definitely and you could see what it meant to them - they celebrated as if they'd just won a final! Good drive from Gilchrist at the end to get that over the line.

Coaches and some players need their p45's though.

I think Dean will end up being quite aome player. He is pretty sound in defence and his passing his good. With some good coaching ...

Stolen from Edinburgh forum, Sunday Times reporting Cockerill is getting to choose his staff:
The move is likely to see Calum MacRae, who has impressed as head coach of Scotland 7s, being part of Richard Cockerill’s Edinburgh support staff as a skills specialist. As revealed in last week’s Sunday Times, the former Leicester Tiger will be allowed to decide on his own coaching team, which places a question mark over the future of forwards coach Stevie Scott in particular.
And apparently Mike Blair will be allocated to a specialist performance coaching group:
Scott Johnson, the SRU director of rugby responsible for coach development, has long been keen to introduce a “performance group” of centrally employed coaches who can be allocated to specific age-grade, sevens and women’s teams according to their needs. If Johnson’s plan comes to fruition, there would be a clearer progression route for aspiring young coaches such as Nikki Walker, Calum Forrester, Roddy Grant and Ben Cairns.
On a separate note I didn't realise Gray (coaching one) is headed out the door with VC. Shame.

To be fair, he managed to keep Hawick in Prem 1 or whatever it is called these days when they had the smallest budget for their squad. He is leaving Hawick so perhaps he will be working for the SRU. I think he is one of a number of young Scottish coaches working towards a UKCC4 certification which isn't easy.

SRU are doing quite alot around coaching development, dont think they are doing enough fast enough and they have the typical top down approach but some of the resources available to coaches at any level are pretty good

Not that I've seen. Even if approaching fitness they should be booking holidays to relax before pre season.

Important they are fit for next year and Dicko will need managed carefully to have e a chance of reaching the next WC.

I agree, those three and Kinghorn need some time off, nothing really to play for this summer.
