They should declare at lunchtime though, Spain will be shafted then.
It's never too soon to reference Spanish lunchtime.

I see the banks are now getting involved. Sabadell is moving to Alicante.

That's not how countries work, or at least not how they're supposed to work.

You seem to be backtracking a bit Donny. If I remember correctly, following the Scotland Referendum, you claimed it ironic that Nationalists wanted to leave the UK Union but remain part of the European Union. Now you are differentiating them.

If this wasn't you, I apologise, but it was certainly someone here.
Sounds like something I would've said. I don't really follow that its backtracking tho, can you elucidate for me?

Well, simplistically, previously you appeared to say that one Union was like another, now you saying they are different.

If that was supposed to be a dig then it's fallen short. I'm taking that as a compliment.
Not sure how the fat, Welsh tranny will feel..... but I'm happy.

Take it any way you like, I couldn't care less. Just don't expect a discussion based around attempts to look cool and edgy.

I'm not happy about my opinions of how global finance is raping the planet, killing thousands and creating diasporas on a scale the planet has never experienced.
I'm very pissed that wars are a self fulfilling prophesy built on the economic foundation of a huge industry that almost certainly wants and will happily make war an inevitability....... just so their products are used.

I've clearly been unclear...

I'm amused by scottish pro indy supporters wanting to leave the uk based on (among other things) a democratic deficit that will be even more pronounced if we were 'independent' in the eu... my sense of irony here is more at the reasons given for wanting to be part of larger union with the eu that will have most if not all of the stated drawbacks of union with the uk.

As far as the situation in Spain goes I was trying to think more of the ability/legal niceties of withdrawing from a particular type of union.

I think.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

According to the beeb at least 350,000 (figures from spanish police) have marched thru Barcelona in an anti independence march. Turns put there is more than 1 side to this coin after all.

I get the impression it’s about 50/50. A bit less for independence a few weeks ago, that has probably increased since. There was something like 80% support for a referendum though.

Did anyone suggest that independence was mailed on ready to go?
I thought we all knew that it was a contentious issue locally? The referendum did not provide enough mandate to declare independence, or even close; it provides enough mandate to suggest that an adult conversation is required... and that police brutality is a bad thing (for those who hadn't already realised that)

Ie not the Spanish government or monarch. Some of the eu hierarchy aren’t covering themselves in glory in this either. The sensible approach is to encourage both sides to talk.

Gloriously revealing the utter lunacy behind unilateral declarations of independence, there appears to be an area of Catalonia that is preparing to unilaterally declare independence from catalonia in response to the catalan parliament's unilateral declaration of independence from Spain.

No more or less than you are on this subject. Although given your normal sources on any given matter, a week on the Spanish coast probably compares quite well.

I suppose you think that independence for Catalonia is a good thing for them and Spain?

Zhiv is likely strong in favour of those voting for a lessening of austerity, albeit without a sound plan of how to pay for it, and anti those voting to leave Spain as they earn more and would prefer to stop seeing their higher wages being taxed to support poorer people, leaving something of a quandary. Still it might be he/she hasn't visisted the area and thus is still able to view the arguments as a neutral

Possibly, although I seem to recall that he considered pre civil war Aleppo to be comparable insize to Chepstow and the less said about some of his other alt news sources the better.

Then again, he may just be going through a petulant stage in his development.

Civil war? You really are clueless. It was a proxy war instigated by NATO and its regional allies, and ultimately ended in defeat at the hands of Assad with support from Russia, Iran and Hezbollah! Flagrant imperialism stopped in its tracks.

I come to this debate a little late but not too late, it seems, to offer an informed view that Rowan is talking out of his opinionated hoop as usual.

I too, shall be starting more threads after this. I had thought of going to Catalonia to join the International Brigade, but it seems they are now all in Aleppo (or was it Chepstow?).
