Yep, it's an upset, for sure - but not "the biggest upset in the history of women's 7s" as claimed
Exactly, they showed they were very capable in previous matches
Are they a bit of 1 trick pony? I haven't seen enough of them to really know. NZ must be massive favourites for gold.
Not really but when everyone says maddison levi is unstoppable it can make you a bit complacent though, oh maddy will bail us out etc Canada dominated possession making madi kind of irrelevant

Why would you assume there isn't?
The contingency plan is hopefully it’ll be ok by the 2nd, otherwise it’s a duathlon.

I mean it's hard to imagine a worse story to be constantly in the headlines other than we can't run this tournament because Paris is literally in the shit.

Piss poor tbh, assuming the beeb story is accurate.

Team GB sevens a bit of a shambles too at the end

Well that's shit.
I thought the presenters has said that if it wasn't good for tomorrow, it goes to a different course, which is planned but needs to be set-up

That’s the open water swimming I think. They may have changed their plan after the original was so plainly stupid

Currently, if no can do by Friday, 5km run instead of swim. Ridiculous

Fair enough - probably my confusion, possibly the presenters' confusion.

Either way, they surely deserve some credit for getting the Seine safe enough in the first place. A Brave call that looks like failing to come through - especially given organised campaigns to prevent it (#JeChieDansLaSeine).
Really, REALLY should have had a back-up plan for the triathlon as well, regardless.

I dread to think how well we'd have done trying to clean up the Thames through London to get that iconography in (not that our riverside iconogrphay is a patch on Paris')

Looks like they have lucked out, great for competitors if so.

(Hopefully it really is safe)

Thames isn’t that shabby iconography wise in London to be fair- I’ve rowed from the Dome to Battersea. Mind rowing under Tower Bridge is quite the experience in many ways.

Sounds less like luck, and more like "the water surge from an entire month's worth of rain that fell on Friday and Saturday is now 3 days ago, not 2"

I'd still be more comfortable if they gave it another day to drop further though, but I guess the weather forecast may count against that.

None of which means that they shouldn't have had a proper backup (like a course that starts at the same backup location as the open-water swim.

Well it would seem to have been bad luck that all that rain fell…

That's absolutely fair. I guess the term "lucked out" just means something different in my brain - feels more like abnormally good fortune, rather than a lack of abnormally bad fortune.

Either way, I have to say, the Seine does look a shit-tonne cleaner than I've ever seen it.

Hmmm - what do they do with false starts in the Tri?

Jebus there's still a lot of water flowing through there!

Just thought. This Olympics is pretty much the first where (GB) competitors got into their sport because of the London Olympics.

Those 5-8 year olds are today's 17-20. This generation of gymnasts first thought of (or their parents did) going to gymnastics classes rather than "dance, modern and tap" because they watched Beth Tweddle.
These divers, grew up watching Tom Daly.

Man the slalom canoe stuff is brutal. Compelling to watch but a brutal sport... centimetres in it on a fast moving turbulent water flow. It has given me one of those moments where you're watching a sport you don't know much about and then someone comes down and makes you go, "Oh, that's what world class looks like in this game"... Jess Fox really is something else.

Desperately sad for Mallory tonight, she never really looked set, which given what she's been thru, losing her dad 5 weeks ago, is completely understandable.
