Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
Still waiting on the missing TV cable. All I wanted was a new TV. All I wanted was to watch it. I could've got a cheaper one over the internet but didn't want to waste time. So here I am 5 days later - still waiting. In fact, I finished my passport renewal application 4 days ago and it arrived in the post from NZ today. But still can't watch the brand new TV I bought 5 days ago

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
Day 12: The TV situation has got more complicated. Apparently I need a local telecom subscription. I've owned TVs in NZ & Spain and never had a subscription before. & I'm pretty sure I didn't have one before. It's not the same one as the internet connection, because that's working fine. So what's all this about then? It may even be that I did have a subscription which I didn't know about after all these years, and that it got disconnected for some reason. If so, I probably threw my beloved old set out for no reason. It might have just been the connection that wasn't working. Curiouser and curiouser. So my landlord's on the case now, and if I'm lucky I might have TV in another week or so. But I'll believe it when I see it - literally . . .

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
& 2 1/2 weeks later I finally have television again, including digital channels which I don't really want - and for which I now have to pay 10 lira a month for. But since 10 lira is about 2 euros at the moment I'm not going to cry too much about that.

Try chucking it out of the window and then turn it back on again.

Not sure that would help the cable connection. But it may come to that eventually . . .

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
All systems go. Hopefully this won't hex it, but after 3 weeks and various visits from repairman, adding a few hundred lira to the nearly 800 I paid for the set in the first place, we finally have TV again. Mashallah!

From the Only in Turkey Files: We had our 6th visit from the servicemen since buying a brand new TV a few weeks ago. It still doesn't work...

Yes we do have a lot of words for it, however the one you seem to be upset by is a French word...rowan wrote:Vignettes

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
right, Ive not got much time today to think it all through re the various different perspectives, so Ill keep it brief, heres my take on it
Rowan, for the second* and Im now thinking the last time cos you aren't a stupid man, Im no longer asking, Im telling you to leave your politics crap to the politics forum. Its exactly the right place for it, it doesnt belong anywhere else and only serves to cause problems. In case you haven't worked it out, I want an easy life here, not to be clearing up after grown adults. Im deleting the posts, if you want to start a thread on it, do so in the Politics and stuff forum. Incidentally the reason we dont want to forget was answered by your first line, the naive young men who definitely dont deserve to be forgotten. I am not engaging in a debate about this. Keep your political stances to the Politics forum, using the "I just find it annoying" argument to justify its placement here in this thread won't wash and if you stop and think about it you'll know why.
Serj - An odd one, reporting your own post ya feckin lunatic? Clearly you know you were stepping over the line with that response. Ive known you a long time, I know a little of your background and I get why you reacted. However I also know something of the way you conduct yourself and the values that are likely to underpin that. Id be confident of predicting that once you've cooled down you'll recognise that your response was more than a little extreme, especially outside of the politics forum. Use more wit and less wishing actual physical harm please

Science bitch. Embrace it. Refers to the specific methods applied to a particular study. Vital for reproducability.welshsaint wrote:METHODOLOGY

It's a bit of a weird one, though. In Engineering, it's generally used to mean "method" but a bit more grand and imposing, rather than it's strict definition which as welshsaint says, should be the "study of methods".morepork wrote:Science bitch. I know, right? It’s like “reproducibility” totally made up bullshit word that just sounds sciencywelshsaint wrote:METHODOLOGY

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
