What is this, a study of methods?
Science bitch. Embrace it. Refers to the specific methods applied to a particular study. Vital for reproducability.
It's a bit of a weird one, though. In Engineering, it's generally used to mean "method" but a bit more grand and imposing, rather than it's strict definition which as welshsaint says, should be the "study of methods".
Personally, it's (mis)use doesn't bother me.
Thanks for that. I don't lose any sleep over it, but always find it amusing where idiots use words incorrectly to try and impress people.

Feel free to respond to MYSELF.

:P The new TV's up & running, by the way, you'll all be pleased to know. I was afraid of announcing this in case I hexed it again, but it's been a few days since the serviceman's last visit and so far the problems have not metastasized further (aside from the 50-odd channels of mindless crap we now have access to, instead of just a few with decent reception). 7th time lucky!

On the contrary, I've never felt more panglossian. Canes are winning, TV works. What more could a man ask for? :P

If only it were that simple. The Canes kept me waiting 21 years and it was starting to look like the servicemen were going to take about as long to get my new TV working

It's actually quicker to go into the bank these days than join the queue at the fast cash machine :?

If it wasn't for the fact that most banks seem to have got rid of the counter service & there
are just more ATMs in the building & very few human staff

Meanwhile, now that my brand new flat-screen TV is finally operational, I have discovered there is a Turkish version of the Aussie TV series Neighbours. It's called Komsular and was indeed inspired by the long-running Aussie show (which I've never actually seen, personally):

The joys of technology :?

Oh this! The over use of personal and personally when it refers to something that is the exclusive preserve of the narrator.

Have you seen it vicariously?

I do not, personally, care for the singing of Mr Francis Sinatra!?

My personal opinion? Though of course in this case it could actually be used by some posters to distinguish an opinion they have formed themselves from one they have merely cut-and-paste from some interminably tedious tract.

The adverb personally is indeed used to separate a personal perspective from the broader one and is perfectly natural in this sentence, as would be the reflexive pronoun myself. I know that, because it's my profession. So it seems you are griping about perfectly standard use of the English language, indicating a degree of ignorance on your own part.

You also overused adverbs thrice in this sentence:

Though of course in this case it could actually be used by some posters to distinguish an opinion they have formed themselves from one they have merely cut-and-paste from some interminably tedious tract.

Nothing more interminably tedious than a pretentious twat scoffing at others for using perfectly understandable language, regardless of whether it was correct or not (in this case the former applied).

Most degrees are useless, practically-speaking, and serve mainly to perpetuate classism.
