his agent has clearly briefed the Times that he is interested in going back to Glasgow

He isn't needed. Only circumstances I see him going back are with JG off to France to make his fortune & RG taking a pay cut. I would love to see RG in a Scotland shirt again but at the same time I don't Glasgow or Scotland owe him a huge amount when you think about what some other players have given to the domestic & international game in Scotland.

SH-C is on the bench for Lyon in today's match in Treviso (currently 0-10 down). Edit.... and not a very auspicious start- losing to Trevino. Richie Gray was apparently a last minute withdrawal for yesterday’s match in Montpellier.

Alex Dunbar is in Brive's starting XV at Bayonne this afternoon. Finn Russell for Racing at home to Montpellier this afternoon.
No Richie Gray for Toulouse - he was withdrawn from last week's European Cup game at Montpellier because of a concussion problem.
Don't know if Laidlaw will feature for Clermont tomorrow away to Toulon as the sides haven't yet been announced.
Edit - Laidlaw starts against Toulon.
Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
... and will leave Clermont at the end of this season, but where will he go?

Rory Hughes off to Leicester on loan for the rest of the season. I was wondering what had happened to him, hope he can turn it into something more permanent. From what I've seen this season though he'll struggle to touch the ball at all.

I wish him well. Although they have been shite this season, I watched their match v Harlequins and would say they have the ability to put up a decent fight - will need to pull out all the stops during the 6 Nations.

It's a good move as far as Scotland are concerned. A team like Exeter will help him develop the rest of his game and make the push to become world class.
Although Hoggy isn't showing many signs of improving his weak spots. Saw him get absolutely flattened in a 1 on 1 tackle against Leicester. The lad strolled in to score the try as a result of it. I know you can't make them all but at the very least you've got to slow the guy down the best you can.

You’ll see Tuafua do that to a few more this season if that makes it any better, which I think it does.

SH-C came off the bench to help Lyon narrowly beat Agen this afternoon. Still waiting for the announcement of the Toulouse side to see if Richie Gray plays at Stade Français tomorrow evening.

You could just say Stade. After all, it is the original

Indeed it is! However, Richie Gray is not in the match day squad. He must still be recovering from being concussed, apparently during the pre-match warm-up before the European home match v Montpellier. Happily, warm-ups were never so intense in my playing days! (reminds me of the story of Moss Keane arriving late for an Ireland match at Lansdowne Rd. They say he wandered into the changing room with a fag and the coach apparently said, c'mon Moss, we're out on the pitch warming up, whereupon Moss said, I'm warm enough thanks, cos I had the heater on in the car!)

Think Hutchison might get cited for a tackle in the Northampton - Wasps game. Arguably the Wasps bloke fell into his shoulder, but could be a nervous week for Toony.

Oh I agree but it's still a Hogg thing to some extent. He did it again against LI - last man left, try scored. It'll get swept under the rug as it was a big win & all his team-mates fell off tackles on the same guy as well... but it remains a problem area in his game.

That felt like an incredibly long decline from looking like he’d be a class international. Or was that too hopeful.

he was a class international, just not for as long as we might have liked.
Sometimes guys lose their desire for the grind of pro rugby, Beattie was very fortunate and managed to eke out a decent living in the South of France for the last 8 or 9 years. Good on him.
Was an absolute beast in his pomp who could do the lot

He called retirement "la petite mort" (the little death). It actually means an orgasm.
Someone has been playing games with him.
