Never mind that NewLife Church nonsense. I've got tickets for the Chills in Invercargill next months. Might get drunk, might even fight a mullet or two.

Yeh, pretty dreadful song, to be honest, while the video looked like a cheesy tourism ad. It's been all downhill since '79 for the Kiwi music scene... :?

Great song, great version from a great singer who didnt get anything like the success his talent deserved...

Not bad. Good vocals. Seems a little cabaret, but I guess most old stuff does nowadays...

It's not the Waldstein, no.

I think it's an critique of the capitalist in us all?

Great vid IMO.

Never looked at it that way. It's just that this was the era that put me off pop music for life, when music shifted from the radio to our TV screens and image began to supersede sound as the primary criteria. The New Romantics smacked of classism - rich white guys with effeminate hairdoes and poncy suits, prancing about with sexy women. Spandau Ballet & ABC are a couple of others I seem to recall - though I'd rather not. What a shame my youth had to coincide with that lot! :(

I agree.

However, there is the occasional 80s gem!

How about some De Falla instead?

Heard this playing snooker the other night. Can't get it out of my head, mainly because of the sample of Pachebel's Canon which is one my favourite songs ever, but it's quite catchy.

Besides Canon, some of the chorus lyrics owe some poetic licence to Fastball's Out of my Head track:

I like it, but anything that samples Canon works for me. I've got a 30 minute version of the track!

Just catching up on Green Day's latest album before hitting their gig tonight. Doesn't sound like much has changed since I last saw them (a few months before the All Blacks first series win in South Africa).

Another star will shine very brightly...Glen Campbell was a 1970's radio staple when I was very young...briefly a Beach Boy...up there with the greats as regards ability to deliver and interpret songs...Wichita Lineman, in my humble opinion, is one of the finest 3 minutes of music laid down...a true existential piece. He will be missed. Rest In Peace , Rhinestone Cowboy...
