See I think White has a reputation as a tactical kicker because it's better than the other bits of his Gabe, not because it's especially great. There is probably an element where fans get frustrated with the slow pace from the ruck but coaches see things that they like. Hope I'm wrong though.
fans mostly only remember great breaks, or huge errors, and the player gets forever labelled great or huge potential and must get more chances etc; or a liability. Sometimes it can be one break or one mistake.
Coaches see beyond that. Mainly because they watch the players over and over in many situations an varied conditions, while we see them occasionally and as above only remember some bits.
But yes coaches see things they like, if repeated week in week out
Similarly they see things they don't like
And most watching Vellacott remember the flashy breaks (in a dominant side against shit teams mainly this season), whilst some will have noted that his box kicking is shit and he is often a rabbit in the headlights. On Saturday we are playing a top side, in shit conditions. Game management and good kicking game essential.

That looks like a superior Scootland squad (seniors). The England bench are potentially trouble.

Harrison is one to watch and heard Gelderbloom was lured from down south because someone saw potential.

Duncan Munn is also very highly rated. Broke through in super 6 this year and has trained with Glasgow. Mainly a 12 though I thought. Max Williamson is another one who is talked about.
We should maybe have a separate u20s thread so it doesn't get lost amongst all the senior stuff.

Ha. I played loose-head briefly at school. The props we had were nice lads, which wasn't what the coach wanted so he had the brainwave of moving his two flankers one step forward in the scrum. It actually went okay for three or four games, but then we played Stirling and I came up against the Scottish schoolboys international tight-head.
He really enjoyed it but it was the worst 40 mins I've ever had on a rugby pitch. I got upset and I'd like to think I unleashed the iron fists of righteous indignation, but my teammates told me it was just embarrassing and made me play the second half on the wing.
Which was my second-worst 40 mins.

Happy 6thmax everyone.
Usual nerves settling in nicely ?
I’m shitting it.
I am so surprised by Eddies team, it looks like everyone in the Nh is playing attacking rugby now
I think we prob have a slight advantage in that Harris is the better defender but daly is a good 13 and back to his best position
Never seen slade play 12 but I presume he is there to help protect smith
Back 3 are pretty good and in Stewart they have a big 15 who is great going forward but if Darcy or Hogg get him 1-1 he isn’t catching either
Back row
This is the big surprise for me , I feel Simmonds is in due to a lack of anyone else (in eddies mind) he could well do well in the lose and is a bugger in the breakdown as is curry. Ludlum is also a terminal hanger on who has had to wait for others to get injured to get back in the squad.
It will be interesting to see how loud the crowd is, could really give the team an extra 10%

oh the nerves are kicking on alright . Always do
Steward is very good going forward, agreed. He is also excellent in the air, attack or defence and at the same height as Kinghorn, very big. He's also better in defence than you seem to imply. You'd hope that if any wing or FB got clear of a 1:1 they wouldn't be caught, but it usually depends on how far out, and usually another defender. I think both Hogg and Graham (and DVDM) may be quicker off the mark but I suspect over 40 or 50m Steward beats Graham. Malins probably the quickest back on show today, don't want to see him one on one against any of our defenders in space

Eddie has picked a team for the conditions. Nearly every back can kick the leather off it.
Steward is excellent. Not that out game will include up and unders but we'd get little change out him.
I'd love Simmonds in our team, and Dombrandt for that matter.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Marchant defend at centre for set pieces instead of Daly.
I worry the deciding factor will be the advantages England have in Dombrandt, Ford and Nowell over the Scotish alternative. Bradbury has been better this year but Dombrandt is better.
I'm leaning towards England by 5 or 6.

Couch is safely positioned in front of the tv to hide behind in around 20 minutes. I have no expectations, so hard to be disappointed. Hogg to bobble one to give away a try, Harris to morph into a defensive turnstyle and Russell to throw a game sealing interception.

I find watching through my fingers very helpful during these annual discomforts .
Plus you can place thumbs in ears to block unpleasant commentary.

England haven't done a great deal but under Tandy we look so much more composed in defence than I can remember.

That is actually a pretty decent 40 mins. Lots of mistakes, sure, but enough organisation to cover it, just about. England should be better than this tho.

D'Arcy Graham cementing himself in the hall of like. A 13 stone winger has no business turning the English forward at the end of that long maul.

Kudos Darcy G btw, not only made the try with a stunning side step, he held up the English players who got over the line off the maul.
