Full time 9-40. Panini trophy retained.
Lots of areas to work on- How poor was EJ's starting selection ?..or was it their hard graft that wore Italy down ?...EJ knows.

Well, whilst we did a good job of putting it away once Italy popped, that first hour, when the opposition were able to affect the game, was awful.
It will now be very interesting to see the starting XV for the Ireland game.

Youngs MotM? I laughed out loud when I saw that.
England improved after h/t - how could they not - and finished well on top. Bench made a real impact.
Nice to see JJ much more involved and scoring some tries, even if the first one was a gift.

Christ that was tough to watch. Felt really sorry for Italy after Joseph's first. It seemed to take all the fight out of them.
Oh England.... So much of that was pitiful. Kruis good, BillyV had his moments. Thought Ford was virtually anonymous try apart and a few good kicks.

yep, you wouldn't get away with that hour against better sides.16th man wrote:Well, whilst we did a good job of putting it away once Italy popped, that first hour, when the opposition were able to affect the game, was awful.

Too many penalties, shocking handling, underresourced breakdown, shoddy lineout. However, the last 20 was a lot better.

Just how bloody deep does Ford sit!!!! Heck, one of Youngs passes died in the air then lamely bounced towards Ford ......Mr Mwenda wrote:Christ that was tough to watch. Felt really sorry for Italy after Joseph's first. It seemed to take all the fight out of them.

I was scared I'd come on here and find everyone agreeing with Youngs as MOTM after, yet again, taking the wrong option 9 times out of 10 or simply executing his choice very poorly. He did make a break earlier didn't he? I can only assume MOTM was based entirely on that.
Overall, pretty whack. All worth it to see the Itoje, Clifford, George passage at the end though.

Will be interesting to see what Jones does for Ireland.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say, couple of mistakes aside, Ford actually played okay. Good kicking game and some nice touches, despite some horrible service. Thought Faz was rubbish.
The big calls will be in the pack. One of Robshaw or Haskell will have have to go and Itoje should come in for Lawes. I know Jones likes experience, but the old guard is rubbish.

Did we have a game plan? Probably one of the worst 40 I have seen for along time.......well, sinceFrance and Ireland last metBanquo wrote:yep, you wouldn't get away with that hour against better sides.16th man wrote:Well, whilst we did a good job of putting it away once Italy popped, that first hour, when the opposition were able to affect the game, was awful.

didnt look like the backs and forwards had the same plan; the forwards were rank as a unit for an hour. Lineout stinking the place up, and penalty count have to be a worry.p/d wrote:Did we have a game plan? Hartley's post-match talk - actually seemed to be on the money with the issues they had and what they need to do (without throwing Ben Youngs under the bus, which fingers crossed, someone might do)

I think the Kruis/Launchbury pairing is on the money. If we are not going with Kvesic then Itoje or Clifford to start alongside Robshawbitts wrote:Will be interesting to see what Jones does for Ireland.

Subs made a difference it must be said, the try near the end with George passing to Farrell was a rare moment of quality in the game.Mikey Brown wrote: Overall, pretty whack. All worth it to see the Itoje, Clifford, George passage at the end though.

For the Ireland game will EJ have the bottle to start with the 2nd row and back row that finished the game (with Lawes and Beaumont on the bench)?

Interesting from Squeaky mk 2 Jones...he's still establishing his hierarchy of players, and said we were a bit crap with the ball.

He really has got to find a new SH or radically change the way that one of those two plays. I can't see how our play with the ball can improve otherwise.Banquo wrote:Interesting from Squeaky mk 2 Jones...he's still establishing his hierarchy of players, and said we were a bit crap with the ball.

To be replaced, Ford, Brown, Hask, Robshaw, Lawes, Nowel.
Worth giving Cips a go alongside Faz. Goode for blind ally Brown. Roko for Nowel, Itoje for Hask, Beaumont for Robshaw.

Dont know about bottle but Kruis and Launchbury starting makes sense, and plainly something needs to happen in the back row.Oakboy wrote:For the Ireland game will EJ have the bottle to start with the 2nd row and back row that finished the game (with Lawes and Beaumont on the bench)?
I've said before that I wouldnt play Itoje at 6 but i'm coming round to the view that he is so damn good I just want him in the side. He made half a dozen serious and effective interventions today and simply oozes quality.
Care must start at 9.

Descent 9 and, now this is slightly radical, a fecking 12 at 12!!!
Up the skill level from 6 to 8

Agree regards Itoje. Though for all his effective interventions there was the missed tackle, penalty conceded and warming up just in a bib with, what can only be described as, budgie smuggler shorts

breakdown is an even bigger issue. There seemed no cohesion there.Oakboy wrote:He really has got to find a new SH or radically change the way that one of those two plays.
