I don't know if anyone got the Times on Saturday but I did like the photo they had of the Glorious Leader out for a cycle ride, in the photo Jeremy is faced with a road sign instructing traffic to turn right, typically Jeremy turned left

Ah, yes. That was were he was present but not participating in an interview regarding a Police investigation into anti-semitic hate crimes.Digby wrote:I don't know if anyone got the Times on Saturday but I did like the photo they had of the Glorious Leader out for a cycle ride, in the photo Jeremy is faced with a road sign instructing traffic to turn right, typically Jeremy turned left

In fairness when it comes to a failure in a duty of care there had already been a number of nasty albeit true stories about him in the media, quite understandably he didn’t want anymore, and really worst case scenario whilst he's risking the lives of some of his MPs they're only JewsStones of granite wrote:Ah, yes. Answers on a postcard, what subject did Corbyn make no mention of during today's PMQs?

Never thought I’d say it but well done Corbyn. I know it’s difficult to tell but there are things happening in the UK other than Brexit.Digby wrote:Answers on a postcard, what subject did Corbyn make no mention of during today's PMQs?

The day after the government suffers multiple defeats in the commoms and is found in contempt of parliament is a politically deaf time to branch out, unless you rather like the idea of Brexit without being blamed for Brexit

You think those defeats and the contempt haven’t been covered? They’re flipping everywhere, everyone knows. Corbyn asking a few questions about it, that May will be fully briefed and prepared for, isn’t going to make any difference.

Two opportunities for Labour, either to devise a sensible way forward from what seems an impasse on brexit, or more likely if less actually useful convincing enough people Labour has a route forward even if that's only smoke and mirrors. Ignoring it during one of the biggest news cycles so far isn't going to get him coverage, instead the news cycle will just drown his voice out

Corbyn doesn’t want a way or a route forward, he wants the govt to fall. As you say he doesn’t give a crap about Brexit, he wants to implement his plans when in govt.

You're never going to control the news cycle, even Blair and Campbell couldn't pull that off, but it's easier if you can look like you're in control and actually leading, in this to me he looks more akin to Sisyphus
Perhaps the glorious leader did it, or if one prefers didn't do it, because he failed attacking the PM on brexit yesterday, but his problem then and now is not the subject,it's that like Boris he's very bad on details

Worrying, if true (I’ve no idea of sample size, methodology etc):

Seems bizarre data in that the latest is 20 years old. Not sure what was going on in the UK in the 90s that made us suddenly feel like we needed a strong man. Was it Britpop?Mellsblue wrote:Worrying, if true (I’ve no idea of sample size, methodology etc):

It's media in the past 15 years, tbf. Which has been universally shocking.Puja wrote:Seems bizarre data in that the latest is 20 years old. We're very much in the age of personality politics. It's all about the individual and that creates massive issues when it comes to things like democracy.
And it's one reason why I'm constantly disappointed in "the left". Socialist politicians don't get it in the way neo-fascists and populists do.

The effect of a strong female PM followed by the perception of a weak John Major held hostage by elements of his own party?Puja wrote:Seems bizarre data in that the latest is 20 years old. That too. We have become more presidential in our view of politics.Stom wrote:It's media in the past 15 years, tbf. It's a case of 'twas ever thus. The decorum left and the moderates are fucking useless, the former is too busy tone-policing themselves to actually be effective, while the latter keeps saying "oh no, we just need to wait for society to catch up to our ideals." And then you get far too many of this:Stom wrote:And it's one reason why I'm constantly disappointed in "the left". Socialist politicians don't get it in the way neo-fascists and populists do.

among activists.
That's not to mention that far too many buy into the "both sides" fallacy. It just makes me want to build a time machine and go to Ancient Greece and beat Pyrrho to death, and then shove whatever Sextus Empiricus wrote on down his throat and make him choke to death on it.

Just how did millionaire tax dodging socialist Derek Hatton manage to survive as long as two days before being suspended following his return to the Labour party?

Hard to know what to make of the by-election in Newport, conceivably Labour, the Tories and UKIP will all claim some element of success, but with such a pathetically low turnout I'm loathe to read anything into it. I suppose I can take from it that the seat sees the three main parties taking the votes all being ones I can't imagine voting for leaves me ongoing voting for a minority view in a FPP system, but that's just business as usual

On different note to the cause of trans people if there really have been senior civil servants briefing publicly against the Glorious Leader® then actually that's pretty serious, shouldn't be fobbed off, and should result in disciplinary action, to what level depends on what was said and in what context.
