It’s the usual…
Digby has been his usual obtuse self, posting things he probably should think twice about, which has led cas to wade in and abuse anyone he can find for being “white suprematist”, and accusing Sandy of being some kind of patsy for an oppressive regime.
I’ve got an idea? Let’s be adults who can talk normally about things without resorting to screaming and throwing our toys out of the pram.

He may have been obtuse but only insofar as he let the mask slip a bit too far. Then presumably went crying to the mods when he was confronted about his idiotic and racistic utterings.
Yeah...he's not the kind of person who goes to complain to mods...
More likely someone was offended by the offensive language used by Cas. If you want to get real change, use language that engages people, talk nicely, explain your point of view, and
don't label everyone racist for admitting they are being racist and that doesn't look good on them...
Take a leaf out of Puja's book. There's a reason he's a mod, and it's not because he's some horrible person.

Enough.
Accusing another poster of racism, or any other offence against the board's rules, must be done via the complaints button. If you don't like the outcome, take the matter up with an administrator.
Continued 'judgement' in this forum will not be tolerated. I refer you all to the board's rules on bullying and harassment. I am deleting the posts where accusations have been made.

Can you clarify what we're allowed to do here? If someone says something that I think is racist, what am I prohibited from saying? I'd prefer to engage than to have someone banned (or not, as the case may be) by some opaque process.

The red line is naming another poster and claiming they are racist. There is a process to report posts for review which must be followed, and an escalation process if you don't like the outcome.

I know we have had this discussion before, but I still regard that as a strange line to draw, especially given the fact that we allow other offensive things so as 'not to shut down conversations'. If it is ex nihilo, then I can see it as just being a straightforward insult, but if someone says something racist, it feels odd that we can't just call a spade a spade (to coin a phrase).

I think we're supposed to say "... call a shovel a shovel" these days, otherwise someone might not so much just "call" you racist, but might jump up and down squealing about it for a tedious number of posts, in turn putting people off posting in here for fear of displaying Wrong Think

The red line is there because these can often turn into public hounding. If you feel someone has broken board rules then complain and it will be discussed by the moderators. I'm not on board with virtual vigilante justice where someone is hounded (other words can be bullied or harassed) because someone has a bee in their bonnet. Its not pleasant.
If a remark is racist then then offending poster will be banned. If the moderators feel that the remark isnt racist then they will deal with it in other ways.

If we're talking about due process, then I think it would benefit the process a lot if when you delete someone's post (e.g. mine in this thread) you at least inform them what it was that they said that you deemed to be crossing a line. Rather than just vanishing posts like a dictator vanishes people he doesn't like.

Yours had quoted a post where an individual was named.

Oh god I somehow just clicked on a youtube video of Kyle Rittenhouse being interviewed on some chat show like he's fucking Justin Bieber. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I started scrolling the comments and I'm just lost for words. I knew he'd gotten away with it but I couldn't face reading any details. I'm sure none of you want to read this, but this is just blowing my fucking mind, assuming any of these comments are from real humans.

this old woman cried like a baby when Kyle was acquitted; I have a grandson his age and was praying for Kyle and his fam throughout the ordeal. It was a pleasure to see him smile and laugh. Thank you.
PS. My faith was restored in my fellow WI jurors.

Okay, so I assume we can say that a post seems racist, or that an opinion seems racist? Otherwise how can such things be discussed?
I agree that no one should be hounding anyone but I think some more transparency would be better here: explanations for locking threads, deletions. And ideally posts could be amended rather than deleted entirely.

Are you sure? Because according to Sandy, they're perfectly acceptable posts that no moderator could possibly find fault with.
I will take a moment to note that I am not the mod for this board or, in fact, in charge of anything aside from the EMB (and North America and General Rugby, but no-one goes in those). So this is not an official pronouncement or Word of Mod or anything.
I get your point. I agree with your point in a lot of respects. Your point is very solidly and stridently made. Please cut it out now, as further grinding of it into the dirt will accomplish nothing except annoying all of the people who agree with you.

Fucking hell America. That report is just a cavalcade of the things wrong with the country. Let's skip the top-level obvious stuff of "I saw a black guy and so shot at him cause I was defending my home", the police that wanted to play devil's advocate and ask "Did you do anything to make them think you were suspicious" and who gave the wannabe lynchers the option to come in as and when was convenient for them, and the charges for shooting at someone fleeing being "assault" rather than attempted murder, and let's look at the employer.
Fed-Ex made him a) rent his own van to deliver the parcels in the first place, b) when he reported being shot at said not to go to the police and that they would file a police report in the morning (presumably with the implication that he still had a shift to finish), c) SENT HIM BACK TO DELIVERING IN THE SAME ROUTE WHERE HE JUST GOT CHASED OUT BY RACISTS WITH GUNS, and d) are not paying him now that he's understandably collapsed in a heap of mental health issues.
What the actual fuck.
