Jake Kerr apparently had a good game as replacement and scored the try that won the game. On the few times I’ve seen him play he generally does well, but well enough to get back into the Scottish squad, I don’t know.

There is or will be a place in the squad to be won. Maybe two

McInally still does not look the player he was before he was made Scotland captain. And he was poor this week including missing a straightforward tackle for Benneton first try.
Brown also has his problems with discipline and decision making.
Turner, who I hoped would take the no1 spot this season, missed the pre season games and first league game with a concussive episode. He went off for an HIA this week and did not return. And he missed a couple of months before the 2019 final. I'm worried about him.

Then we are down to Cherry, Stewart, Mathews. All honest players. Then Ashman. Given the ages of McInally, Brown, Cherry, getting close to the time when we should be looking deeper. If we are going to need Ashman and Kerr for the 2023 RWC, need to get them into the squad next month. If only to gee up the older guys

Good point re the hookers. It does seem to be a position (alongside scrum half) in which only having two pro teams holds people up. Stewart is very promising but isn't actually that young and doesn't have that much chance of becoming first choice at Glasgow.

Everyone fit and on form, it's a position of strength. With injuries and inconsistency, it's a worry.

I think we may quickly reach the end of McInally and Brown as effective international hookers. I an not sure McInally will be Edinburgh No.1 by mid season.

It’s a shame. He added so much in that brief period he’d finally found his feet at hooker.

Fingers crossed he can gradually establish himself. I know they have a good backline but it is easy to forget just how good Jones was at his best.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post. But with the new switching nationality rules, I know Jack Dempsey has been mentioned as being theoretically possible. But wondered if same applied to Zach Mercer: if I remember right, whilst he is an England cap, he is Scottish qualified and seems to be a long way down the England pecking order and now playing in France. But he's some player and could definitely add to our squad

Whether he would actually be remotely interested is another question altogether...
