Time for Petrie to show he is competent and allow Cockerill to bring in his own staff - a full clear out required.

If Newport turn them over in the next game then it looks very possible Edinburgh will finish 11th as the final round has Glasgow v Edinburgh and then the winner of the Zebre/Treviso H2H would likely over take them.
If this season was any longer you'd be odds on for Edinburgh to finish rock bottom.

Hodge seems to have lost the team.
I can't see Cockerill engineering a big bounce in his first season as the squad remains horribly weak particularly with Bradbury (I'm guessing) and Bennett out for a while and question marks over Dickinson and Nel.
There are 8 sides in the Pro12 who can compete for Top 6 and then a big gulf to the bottom four of Embra, Dragons and the two Italian teams. Rebuild squad next year with the aim of a Top 6 year after.

Absolutely. Give Cockerill a free reign - he knows what he is doing. SRU & Petrie intervention is just asking for trouble and potentially more years of languishing around the bottom of the table.

That's not Petries remit. It is the DOR responsibility. Most player deals and all coaching appointments are DoR/SRU led.
Players have stopped playing which is a sure fire sign the coaches must go.

I'm not convinced that a good pre season, clear game plan couldn't build some confidence and do ok.

We gotta figure something out at 9 & 10 & maybe 12. I think Burleigh could do a job, but it'd be nice to have another option there.
I know this personnel can play good, attractive, winning rugby, but with nothing left to play for, it's pretty clear they're just not playing.
Cockerill will have work to do deciding on what type of structure he'd like to use, but we gotta get better at pivot.

Well at least we can give up on the idea that it's all weirs fault and that Tobey is a much better player. The entire team is in freefall so no point in singling out players.

It seems to me like they're always in two minds tbh. I think they could play good, abrasive, forward oriented rugby, but with so many of the senior or stand out forwards injured, that's a tough thing to do. Similarly there are some game breakers in the backs, but there's just not a collective understand of what to do or when to do it.
When the pressure is off, or in counter attack, they play some great stuff, but there seems to be a missing wave length that means support lines aren't run as well as they could be, so breaks aren't finished and so forth.
Anyway, we despertely need the end of the season and a reboot.

That would be a good signing. As cover for Bennett or to compete?

I'm not sure, I just saw a few folk tweet about it. I think the original rumour came from Then Rugby Paper. He'd be a good signing if he can stay injury free.

Need a new name for the board now Hodge is about to leave
How about
"Oh God another coach, please please please let him be better than the last 6, i cant stand another season of complete ineptitude followed by excuses about lack of a decent pre season, lack of basic skills and in ability to breakdown a defence "

Not seeing that reported?
Dalziel is finished with LS so I'd get him in and bin either Scott or the defence coach.

Or just let Cockerill pick as he knows what he is doing. If they can be Scottish, great. If not then too bad - turning Edinburgh around is priority number 1.

I would let Cockerill chose within reason, although he did hand pick Mauger for Tigers and that didn't work and the Tigers approach had a lot of promoting from within so that was either board influence or Cockerills method.
I imagine Cockerill will be pretty hands on so any forwards coach will be working closely to him so would see a Scottish coach (not Scott) as fairly low risk. So with that in mind I would be encouraging him to take on a younger Scottish "apprentice" with the hope of developing a Scottish coach to take over.
In many respects I think the backs coach is the one where Cockerill and the SRU need to get it right regardless of where the coach comes from as it isn't Cockerills area of expertise.
