Great day. But Boris not out yet. In fact I assume he'll brazen it out, and prorogue again (for a shorter time).

Parliament needs to get rid of him and form a government of national unity. It needs to be taken out of has hands, and indeed out of the hands of this minority government entirely.

If only Labour can show willing......

It's quite amusing watching him, with his 2.1 in classical literature, pronouncing on how all 11 Supreme Court Judges have misapplied the law.

ETA: I bet there were some high-fives and smug grins in the Court of Session tea room.

He deals with it like he deals with everything else. It simply doesn't matter what the problem is, how utterly damning it is for him, he acts like it's just a minor setback... and okay, let's just roll our sleeves up and get back to delivering Brexit on 31st October.

Nothing will stop him short of ... actually stopping him, removing him from power.

So... Prorogation was nothing to do with Brexit
Simultaneously, stopping Prorogation is all and only about stopped Brexit; and the judges are (predictably enough) "enemies of the people" for applying the law.

I thought he did Classics.

Who's getting thrown under the bus for this? Or do they ride it out en masse (albeit a minority en masse)?

its not like they haven't had a couple of chances to do that already though.....I fear that this actually might not even touch him in the popularity stakes.

According to his wiki entry, he studied Literae Humaniores
If this doesn’t translate most closely into classical literature, then mea culpa.

Farage is gunning for Dominic Cummings, which is probably enough to save DC’s neck.

I'm pretty sure that's still Classics, but if Rob Howley wanted a bet on it I wouldn't care too challenge his knowledge of betting, or the classics

Perhaps it is, it doesn’t alter my point in the slightest.

It continues the theme he's the new Trump, who needs experts and so on.

Sadly none of these people dismissing the view of experts are getting on planes designed by fast food servers and flown by whatever dross was first to order a pint on a given day at Weatherspoons

I doubt it will. Or at least that much. If you want your Brexit hard, then Boris being told off for trying to achieve that aim won’t matter that much.

However, Boris backtracking because of a pesky law might. I expect to see some form of shenanigans over having to ask for an extension. It wouldn’t surprise me to see anothe court case in the near future.

I don't even think its no-dealers who 'support' Boris, its people who believe that parliament is doing everything it can to stop Brexit full stop. And if parliament were honest, that is exactly what is happening; that's why I applaud the Libdems and SNP for at least being upfront.

We'll have to disagree on that point. His internal support base is entirely aligned along the no-deal front. They financed his leadership campaign and probably insisted on Rees-Mogg being put in a position of influence, as well as the hiring of Cummings. He hasn't done a single thing to indicate that he is in the least interested in getting a deal.

Not so sure. I think there are some MPs who will support a deal but hate the idea of no deal. More than a few really don’t like how the ERG held May to ransom. A rehash of Mays deal would bring them back to support.

With prorogation having been nullified - it would need to be more than a rehash, surely.
Thogh, of course, the threshold for being substantially different seems to be rather low.

I didn't mean the politicians, I meant the general public as per opinion polls.

Sorry I should have been clearer- the majority of parliament wish to remain, I wasn't saying all parliament, but I do believe Parliament as a whole is perceived as stopping Brexit, not 'merely' No deal.

There is a problem here, how does one convey any even slightly nuanced message to people so stupid they look at parliament spending billions of pounds on trying to establish a model for Brexit, and failing so far, and conclude that in spending so much time and money trying to doing it they're merely trying to block it?

at the risk of being labelled 'so stupid', I do question whether Parliament is acting in good faith as a whole to enable Brexit.

Not sure the problem is parliament as such as that the big parties are putting themselves ahead of the process and whipping their MPs so. But both major parties are looking for a deal. Ideally going back a long ways they'd have done much more around giving free votes (not whipped votes) to start to find out where there was support, but May and Corbyn both went big on their red lines and obfuscation.

if one wants to say parliamentary MPs allowing themselves to be whipped is a parliamentary problem it's hardly an unfair description. I'd call it a party issue, but the label is hardly the key issue

You wouldn't believe the number of things he "wasn't permitted to disclose".
