There's been some curious decisions
Lucas Friday looks a lot better than the starting SH

Only saw the last 20, thought he looked rushed under not a lot of pressure. With a bit of experience he'll probably control the tempo a bit more, looks like he's got the skills.
The scrum camps seem to have been going well, not often we've beaten up the French forwards at age grade level.

Our pack is monstrous. You'd struggle to say that any of AOF, Wright, Sela, Fasogbon, Sodeke, Bailey, Kpoku, Pollock, Carnduff won't go onto full international honours from that squad.
Also the backs were on the pitch too.

Well done lads! Real togetherness and commitment about the team this year. Backs never quite clicked but we had enough individual quality to come out well on top.

Michelow was brilliant too. Shame he missed the final.

Re: U20 JWC
I got that wrong then.
I expected us to dominate up front, but not to that extent. Also the most controlled game I've seen from us this fournie - it was almost like had real half-backs out there.
Equally, the most panicked I've seen France these few weeks, forced by ourselves, of course, but I didn't expect their backs play to fall down quite so spectacularly.
Very well played England, deserved winners from what I watched

Re: U20 JWC
There’s an opportunity for Friday to be fast tracked at Quins if he’s got the ability and motivation to seize it.
Care’s got a year left and while I rate Porter highly, the rest of our 9s are very average (Gjaltema and Green). We had success doing it with Smith so I wouldn’t be totally surprised to see Friday in first team contention quickly.

And actually come to think of it, given the death of 12s for both Quins and England, I wonder whether Kerr might also get fast-tracked? At club level he’ll be competing with Northmore, Anyanwu and Bradley who are all better at 13.

Kerr was arguably our best back. Got a nice blend in his game, can kick and doesnt lack physicality. A lot to like about him.

Agreed. He was very good in he 6N and I can definitely see him involved in the Quins first team before too long.

Quins need a new 12... Kerr looks a classy option, bit of a change in style for their midfield but I think if they invest time in him now they'll enjoy the benefit for years afterwards.

Some of the defending around the ruck particularly was laughable and you just won't give them those sorts of opportunities.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:47 pm 55-31, NZ U20's biggest ever defeat - up 4 from last year's defeat by France

Are England statistically poor at introducing 19/20 year olds compared with other countries? Or, is it just our club structure (salary cap?) that is at fault?

yes, its O'shea's biggest concern. One of the RFU's presentations captures how few minutes of senior rugby U20 age group reps had last season and the season before. They want the Champ clubs to provide homes for 2/3 per club from 25/26, and fund them.....details being worked on.

Do you think that will work as a pathway?Banquo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:56 amyes, its O'shea's biggest concern. I see the prem clubs and England as having limited imagination/judgement. Just as a theoretical example, should Pollock be adjudged to have a significantly higher ceiling than Underhill, how and when does he get to prove it? Arguing that he has to demand the shirt with club performances is all well and good if a club gives him a chance.

Re: U20 JWC
It’s going to have to be a mixed economy. Some of the lads will do better being introduced into BUCS or Nationals rather than Champ; Champ obviously a good breeding ground for some, as well as game time for their own club in Prem cup and Prem/Europe.
It is very common for lads coming out of school into seniors to have first season on loan or BUCS.
