He played in a poor Scotland team for most of his international career. I don't think he or the coaches could have done anymore. He was as good as he could have been IMO.

Land Rover announced as new sponsor.

Land Rover has been unveiled as the Official Vehicle Partner of Glasgow Warriors.

The announcement was made at Scotstoun Stadium, the home of the Warriors, with the help of Scotland internationals and Warriors’ stars Finn Russel, Stuart Hogg, Jonny Gray and Tommy Seymour.

Land Rover’s partnership with Glasgow Warriors is the latest addition to the company’s long standing support of rugby at all levels of the game; from grassroots to the elite.

The three-year deal will see Land Rover directly support the game in Scotland and is testament to its commitment to investing in rugby in the UK.

As an active sponsor, Land Rover will look to engage its Scottish retailers through its relationship with Glasgow Warriors, helping strengthen ties with the local community and encourage the growth of rugby in Scotland.

Land Rover now boasts a UK rugby sponsorship portfolio that includes a presence in England, Wales and Scotland. Land Rover is the Official Vehicle of Premiership Rugby, Principal Partner of Welsh regional side Cardiff Blues, Main Club Partner of English Premiership Rugby side Wasps and Title Sponsor of the UK grassroots rugby programme, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, which has been engaging the next generation of rugby players for nearly a decade.

The Land Rover logo will feature on the front and back of the Warriors playing shirt for the first time when they play Leinster in Dublin on Friday night.

Nathan Bombrys, Glasgow Warriors managing director added: “Land Rover is the latest blue chip company to join our family of sponsors and it’s great that they’ve chosen to partner with Glasgow Warriors in order to further strengthen their position within UK rugby.

“The Land Rover brand and its outstanding range of all purpose vehicles has such a rich and respected heritage in rugby.

“To have the excellent support of a global brand that shares similar values to us, made this a natural fit for the club and we’re really looking forward to working closely with them over the next three years.”

Jeremy Hicks, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: “This announcement is testament to Land Rover’s continued support of rugby in the UK, and by joining forces with Glasgow Warriors Land Rover is making an important addition to the brands portfolio of rugby sponsorships.

"Land Rover has a heritage in investing in rugby at all levels of the game; from grassroots to the elite, and working with Glasgow Warriors offers an incredibly exciting opportunity to support the game in Scotland whilst complementing Land Rover’s wider UK rugby strategy."

That's a superb sponsor to have - I'm sure the commercials work out nicely as well. Bombrys seems to be very good at what he does.

Seymour set to join centurion club

Tommy Seymour will make his 100th Glasgow Warriors appearance tomorrow night, starting at full-back as the Warriors take on Leinster at the RDS Arena, Live on TG4 (kick-off 7.35pm).

It will be Seymour’s first game since being announced in the British and Irish Lions squad for this summer’s tour to New Zealand.

Seymour scored four tries in a man of the match performance in the reverse fixture at Scotstoun earlier this season, inspiring Glasgow to a 33-25 bonus-point victory.

Leonardo Sato and Lee Jones will join Seymour in the back three, occupying the wing berths.

Nick Grigg and Sam Johnson continue their pairing in the middle of the park, both having scored tries against Zebre at Scotstoun in Glasgow’s last game.

Peter Horne, who had a 100% kicking record against Zebre, retains his spot at 10 and is again joined by co-captain Henry Pyrgos at scrum-half.

Alex Allan is another to reach a personal milestone at the RDS, making his 50th appearance for the club. He is joined in the front-row by Fraser Brown and Sila Puafisi.

Brian Alainu’uese celebrates his recent new contract with another start and he is joined by co-captain Jonny Gray in the second-row.

Tim Swinson starts on the blind flank on his return to the side with Chris Fusaro and Adam Ashe completing the back-row.

Scotland internationals Gordon Reid, Zander Fagerson, Ali Price, Finn Russell and Alex Dunbar all return from a week of rest and will look to bring an impact to the game off the bench.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “It has been a good couple of weeks for Tommy, he’s always looking to develop and better himself and it’s great for him to reach a personal milestone.

“Having signed a new contract earlier in the season I’m sure he’ll go on to shine for the club many more times in the future.

“Leinster are a team we always look forward to playing, they’re one of the best teams in Europe and play really positive rugby. We’ll have to go there and play really well to come away with a win.”

Didn't manage to catch this one but I would have liked to think that Glasgow team could beat the Leinster seconds.

How did Seymour go at 15?

I thought he did ok. Looked a bit out of place a couple of times early on but grew into the game. Solid under the high ball, as you'd expect.

This was an interesting little nugget dropped at the bottom of a round up article on their supporters website: "Warriors played a closed-doors training game with Scotland U20 last Wednesday. Among those impressing for Warriors in the 50-19 win was George Stokes, a back row forward from the Toulon Academy who is at Scotstoun for a trial period."

He's apparently quite good pals with Crammond who is also at Toulon. Could be related but maybe not.

Either way, if he's the only extra back row signing the weeg make then I cannot see the fans being happy. Strauss MUST be replaced.

Acting Head Coach Duncan Hodge has named his Edinburgh side for the final match of the Guinness PRO12 season against Glasgow Warriors tomorrow (Saturday 6 May) at Scotstoun – live on BBC 2 Scotland.

Hodge has made four personnel changes to the backline with Blair Kinghorn making his first start on the wing and Phil Burleigh returning to inside centre.

Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and Duncan Weir are both promoted from the bench to start as the half-back duo.

Ross Ford starts at hooker, while Jamie Ritchie and John Hardie – who this week penned a new deal with the capital club – are named on the flanks.

Hodge, said: “Glasgow are our biggest rivals and we need no bigger motivation than facing them on their home patch.

“We’ve had a good week of preparation going into this game and we’ve got some confidence following our late win against Dragons last week. Although we didn’t perform well on the whole in that game, we showed belief in our ability and a mental resilience to get the win.

“It’s been a challenging season, but we want to finish on a high while playing the open and exciting brand of rugby we’re capable of producing.”

Last week’s man of the match, Glenn Bryce, continues at fullback with try-scorers Damien Hoyland and Kinghorn, named on the wings. Chris Dean partners Burleigh in midfield.

Allan Dell and Simon Berghan pack down either side of Ford, with captain Grant Gilchrist and Ben Toolis – today named in the Guinness PRO12 Dream Team – continuing in the second-row.

Cornell du Preez retains his spot at number eight to join Ritchie and Hardie in the back-row.

Players unavailable due to injury: Magnus Bradbury (knee), Tom Brown (groin), Jack Cosgrove (ankle), Alasdair Dickinson (foot), Viliami Fihaki (knee), Nasi Manu (shoulder), Viliame Mata (shoulder), Stuart McInally (back), WP Nel (neck), Alex Northam (Achilles), Rory Sutherland (groin), Jason Tovey (shoulder), Hamish Watson (groin)

31-year-old Murchie has been at the Warriors since 2009 and has made 116 appearances for the Guinness PRO12 side.

He made his Scotland debut in 2013 and has gone on to win three caps for his country.

Tjiuee Uanivi, Nemia Kenatale and Hagen Schulte all joined the club last summer.

To be honest I'd have taken Lyle at Edinburgh to fill the gaping gap at 12. To me he looks as good as Burleigh at a fraction of the cost.

hp what's the story with Junior? Was he ever actually a full time pro with Glasgow or did he have other commitments - serving in army, full time 7s, etc?

I've been impressed every time I've seen him play and thought he had real potential to kick on so I was led to assume his lack of game time was due to other commitments.

Frankly I think he has far more potential than Rory Hughes who never gives anything less than 110% but remains a pretty limited player IMO. Hope Edinburgh pick him up.

He was a full time pro although still technically in the army and available to play for them. Pretty disappointed he's been released. I'd like Embra to pick him up or at least the 7s.
