How far off fitness is Jones?

If it's true 1/2p is holding pit for 500k then Glasgow got a belting deal for Hogg at 375k (if rumours are true).

I sometimes wonder if i really know that much about rugby, I can't look at halfpenny and imagine him worth half that, his kicking was exceptional a few years ago but he offers so little in attack and his defence stats are not that much better than Hoggs.

I hatge to say it but we have now reached a point where rugby is just trying to bag success where your agents ability to create an artificial market for a player is sucking money out of the most needy of the game.

The genie is out the bottle so the only thing to do is sit back and wait for the bubble to pop, and pop it must because the world doesnt care about rugby so much sooner than football we will reach the point of market saturation and then pop.

The rugby unions need to sit and wait it out and make sure its idiot billionaires that lose out

Salaries area bit of a laugh at the moment. I'm all for them making the most of their short career but I don't know how much a player actually adds in Value to a Club.

Fraser Brown out for 4 months - may miss the autumn internationals.

This could be a nightmare season for Glasgow. Squad looks very bare due to insufficient recruitment on top of injuries/surgery & big signings still involved in SH tournaments. Plus head coach unavailable for a while yet.

Am beginning to think similar. Dunno about "nightmare", but can see it being branded as a "season of transition", particularly if they're experimenting a wee bit at fly half before Finn goes to France.

Teams develop so it is probably time for Glasgow to have a transition season, I think that some of their youngsters could form a great team in a couple of years time but next season will be a bit early. The acid test is whether they can keep the levels of support if they do have a rough year or even two.

Hooker George Turner has joined Glasgow Warriors on a season-long loan from Pro12 rivals Edinburgh.

The 24-year-old was one of three uncapped players called up for Scotland's summer tour.

However, he did not feature in the Tests against Italy, Australia and Fiji, with Ross Ford and Fraser Brown sharing the number two shirt duties.

Turner made his Edinburgh debut in 2014 but has only started once in 11 appearances.

"I've seen Fraser Brown develop over the last few years after he came here (from Edinburgh) and hopefully I can do the same," said Turner, who had a loan spell at London Scottish last season.

Turner will provide cover for Brown, who is facing up to four months out after surgery on an injured ankle.

That's Dave Rennie flying up soon then. He just needs some fixtures to prepare for now.

This is a decent interview with defence coach Kenny Murray. New laws sound like they may favour Glasgow/ Scotland's style of play.

Both team threads could probably do with a reboot in a couple of weeks with the new squads.

I thought Ashe was fit again at the end of the season? I really hope he can stay fit and kick on. He has something about him that makes me think he could cut it, but I've seen some very underwhelming performances too.

He seems to have the natural size and some pace but really needs to get some consistent games soon. This should be his chance with a new coach and Strauss gone

Additional cover for Hogg and Russell, puts pressure on Horne, Thomson and the as yet untested Hastings. Knows the club ethos, and brings more international experience to the squad.

Despite me description of him as "cover", he will have his own agenda of getting back into the national set-up and good on him if he upsets a few punters and does so.
