He's a twat.
Well, I don't know much, I've seen a fair bit on socials (pinch of salt etc) about how the likes of Pelosi and others are now trying to get him to stand aside, plus today I've seen several polls that claim to show voters in swing states would happily vote Democrat (over Republican) if almost anyone other than Biden or Harris were on the ticket. Maybe all hope isn't lost? Or maybe I shouldn't believe what I see on socials and just accept that Trump will win.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 1:57 pmCould this be the medical excuse Biden is looking for? I don't wish the man any ill. I would like him to step aside and perhaps a dose of covid might remind him that he's getting weaker and no longer up to it.
What I'm struggling to understand is why the leadership of the Democrats is pushing so hard to get him nominated set in concrete? I know that there is a need to register a Democratic candidate in states before a cut-off date, but I understand that to be early August. This insistence on ignoring the issue of Biden's capability to hold high office moving forward is plain dumb.
I think Trumps base is entirely behind him but that’s not a majority of the electorate. I’m sure other voters will go elsewhere if given a reason to. Biden just isn’t inspiring them to do so.Donny osmond wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 4:15 pmWell, I don't know much, I've seen a fair bit on socials (pinch of salt etc) about how the likes of Pelosi and others are now trying to get him to stand aside, plus today I've seen several polls that claim to show voters in swing states would happily vote Democrat (over Republican) if almost anyone other than Biden or Harris were on the ticket. Not a hope she beats trump
Whitmer seems to be someone who could challenge trump in mid West battlegrounds where it'll be won and lost. There's really only half a dozen states up for grabs

He couldn’t have scripted this better. Get accused of a bunch of crimes that can get delayed or thrown out by corrupt judges, or which aren’t taken that seriously. That gives him victim hood. Add in a president who is on his last legs and an attempted assassination attempt for aEugene Wrayburn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 11:45 pm Trump really is the luckiest motherfucker in American political history.
I was listening to someone describe J D Vance as the intellectual heft of MAGA on a podcast earlier which puzzled me until I considered the rest of them.morepork wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:44 pm Don't forget classy. Trump is class, in the manliest of manly ways:

I think Vance is acting dumber than he really is though, to get that blue collar demographic. The ones who think he gives a shit about them because he wrote a book with Hillbilly in the title.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 6:08 pmI was listening to someone describe J D Vance as the intellectual heft of MAGA on a podcast earlier which puzzled me until I considered the rest of them.morepork wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 5:44 pm Don't forget classy. I'm worried that he just won't go. But the drying up of funds should give him a taste of chilly reality. I hope.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:00 am Massive conundrum here. Kamala is the obvious replacement, but she doesn’t appear to be that popular and there’s a racist and sexist issue to get over. But would the Dems want to replace her with a white man? Not a great look.
I like Whitmee but if she isn’t keen yet then I’m not sure who else. I have a horrible feeling that it’s too late and this is now about damage limitation.
The DRC might eventually find the balls to push Biden out, but there's no way in hell they will be able to do that and deny him his choice of successor.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:42 pmI'm worried that he just won't go. But if he does go I can't see anything other than him anointing Harris. It's not actually in his gift, she would still need to win the vote, but all the momentum and patronage and money would be with her.
That’s possible. He also seems to come across as more ideologically hard right than Trump, which isn’t a happy thought.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:32 pmI think Vance is acting dumber than he really is though, to get that blue collar demographic. I did hear (from C4 news) that he's changed his views so radically (from the centre-right) that it's hard to believe anything he says.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 8:43 amThat’s possible. It's not really something they can do. He's got the votes so he's the nominee. I'm not sure even invoking the 25th amendment (which there's no way they'll do) would mean that he wasn't the nominee. He needs to be persuaded that he cannot win. And I think he probably cannot. His team need to make him watch the debate then set out what he needs to do to counter-act that (a shit ton of interviews day and night without seeming senile and ideally without making more gaffes, which would be interpreted as him being senile). They need to be honest and say they don't think he can manage that and get out the necessary messages in those interviews. Biden has a great story to tell. He's been a brilliant president. But he's incapable of campaigning and telling that story. I thought they would manage to marshall the full talents of the party and use them to get the message out but the reality is that the american media is not vaguely interested in policy and is only just about interested in reporting the presidential contenders.Puja wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 12:42 amThe DRC might eventually find the balls to push Biden out, but there's no way in hell they will be able to do that and deny him his choice of successor.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:42 pmI'm worried that he just won't go. No point (electorally speaking) if you improve things but no one notices. You need to make a big enough improvement in their lives that they can't ignore it. Wealth redistribution is a sensible approach - a dollar is more noticeable to the poor than the rich (and a better economic stimulus) - so transfer some of them!Sandydragon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:00 am Sadly his record is getting zero attention. Trump has raw energy and Biden just looks increasingly feeble against that. A large part of the presidency is appearing to be presidential.
