22 Feb Scotland RBS 6 Nations squad update
Scotland Head Coach Vern Cotter has made five changes to the Scotland squad for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations.
Glasgow Warriors trio Grayson Hart (scrum-half), Rob Harley and Ryan Wilson (back-row), join Edinburgh Rugby’s uncapped hooker George Turner and back-row Hamish Watson in camp at BT Murrayfield today (Monday), ahead of this Saturday’s match against Italy in Rome (27 February).
The quintet replaces prop Alex Allan, back-row Chris Fusaro (both head knocks) and hooker Pat MacArthur (thigh / groin) from Glasgow Warriors, and London Irish pair Blair Cowan (concussion) and Sean Maitland (thigh).
All of the players will continue their recovery with their respective clubs.
The Scotland squad has also been boosted by the availability of Harlequins wing Tim Visser and Glasgow Warriors centre Peter Horne – named in the original squad – who have completed their recovery from their respective hamstring and foot injuries to take full part in training this week.

What the flying f*ck? Grayson Hart? He's being kept out of the club team by Ali Price.

Not the first time that Vern has disagreed with the club coaches (Blake) but hopefully he just thinks it's more helpful for Price to get 80 minutes this week for Glasgow.
No Maitland is a blow but good to see Visser back. Interesting to see Jackson actually listed as a full-back. WIthout Maitland in the squad we're pretty much forced to select him on the bench.

I forgot about Blake, how's he getting on?

He was selected in the initial squad as a full back too. Wouldn't mind seeing Horne and Scott/Taylor on the bench

If Jackson is on the Bench then there is no need for Weir. We don't need two fly-halves on the bench with another 1.5 on the field.

Completely agree. VC's bench selections have been absolutely shocking this 6N.

I guess we will find out more tomorrow when the Glasgow team is announced.
But I do think the 23 almost picks itself (in no order except that order they come to mind):
Hooker: Ford, Rambo
Props: Nel, Dicko, ,Fagerson, Sutherland/Reid (Not sure what Sutherland has done, or Reid hasn't done for VC to decide Sutherland is ahead).
Grayx2, Toolis (Although VC likes Swinson)
Hardie, Denton, Barclay, Strauss
SH-C, Laidlaw - one off form and the other poor.
Russell, Jackson
Scott, Taylor, Bennett
Hogg, Seymour, Visser
I think Jackson deserves his spot over Weir/Horne.

Wouldn't pick Scott as he's still living on performances of a couple of years ago. His distribution still isn't good enough. Taylor/Bennett or might even go Horne/Taylor.

You'd drop Taylor completely?

Indeed. We haven't won a 6N game in two years, we are not in a position where we can drop players who actually had a good performance. Taylor starts or is in the 23 shirt at the very least.

I favour getting our best players on the pitch in one way or another with impact from the bench. So for me:
11 - Seymour
12 - Scott
13 - Bennett
14 - Taylor
15 - Hogg
22 - Jackson
23 - Visser
I'm a big fan of Horne but can't fit him in. If Maitland was fit then Horne might take Jackson's spot on the bench.

Heehaawed a fair bit about Taylor. Wanted to fit him in but also wanted Horne there too. Would be unhappy with Taylor at 12 instead of Scott. Even though we have lost a few midfielders still causing debate.

Just saw that Weir, Harley and Strauss are all starting for Glasgow tomorrow night. Looks like Stern Vern favours Wilson over Strauss just now and Rhubarb/ Horne over Weir. Fagerson is on the bench too, so he's going with Low on Saturday.

I think dropping Taylor for Scott would be a mistake. SHC - Jackson - Scott on the bench would be decent cover with SHC/Bennett/Hogg also covering wing.
The Italians will fancy their chances but I'm really hoping that this team can finally finish off a game and look to beating at least one of Fra/Ire before the tournament is done.

I think we need to hold our nerve and not change much. I still believe a couple of wins would make a huge difference to this group. I think we all agree bar a few positions.
I'd bring Visser in on the wing if he is fit and probs leave Taylor although I am more of a Scott fan.
The one rash change I might make is to start McInally. I know that it would not really be on form or particularly deserved but I think he has the potential to offer something different for us.
Other than that I would stick with what we had and tell them to go out and attack

Terrible bench selection as usual. I cannot believe Jackson has been dropped entirely. It's just baffling. How have we gone from having too much cover at 10 to none at all.
