Re: v AB'S - Second Test
Frankly, it feels like the most positive change in personnel is Garces for Peyper who we can only hope will ping their scrum all day long, and that Daly and Faz have their best kicking boots on.
Otherwise, New Zealand will have to play significantly worse than at any time in recent memory for the Lions to level it on Saturday and I can't see them being that obliging.

They are still way better than Farrells 'carrying' stats at 12. Lets just hope all his other excellence overcomes his pretty much non existent carrying.oldbackrow wrote:Those are interesting, where are they from?Timbo wrote: 9 carries for 14 metres, 0 defenders beaten, 0 line breaks...

Do ESPN have stats for 'test match animal' and 'iceman temperament'? Do they also have a stat for 'slowly winding up a left to right pass and only hitting the bread basket 6/10 times'?skidger wrote:They are still way better than Farrells 'carrying' stats at 12. its weird....Will Greenwood, who knows about this stuff you'd think, seems to think Faz is a passing wunderkind. They do and he tops it. Never has so much hype been given to a solid player. Now is the time for him to deliver.Mellsblue wrote:Do ESPN have stats for 'test match animal' and 'iceman temperament'? Re: v AB'S - Second Test
I was just watching some weird youtube video called something like Owen Farrell was actually good in the 1st test, despite criticism (just popped up when looking for Lions/Canes highlights) that showed all his involvements in the game. There were some very fast, accurate passes (to the right players) in there but it did really strike me how much he winds those up, going both directions too. The pass itself was often great but it was that fraction later and that bit more telegraphed than it needed to be. It is nitpicking to some extent, but this is a quality that Ford has that he shares with Larkham/Greenwood to be able to ping a pass away at the moment the opportunity appears.
It did make me appreciate Elliot Daly's performance more, he got the ball a good few times in horrible positions with defenders closing in and at least managed not to get smashed.

That decision was made before the highlanders game. Otherwise there's no way that one of Henderson or Lawes is forced to play the full 80, assuming the random welsh bloke wasn't going to come off the bench.Sandydragon wrote:Didn't see that coming. I suppose it's a roll the dice and see what happens type of selection, it could be a master stroke, but equally I feel that SBW will like running straight and hard at Sexton and Farrell. Teo will certainly provide impact, hopefully not to late.
Really not sure about Nowell.
Stander over Tips. dont agree with that at all and AWJ is very lucky. Henderson very unlucky.

I would prefer to listen to almost anyone else excluding Barnes than to listen to Mr Greenwood's boy. I hit mute when I hear him chirping off.Banquo wrote:its weird....Will Greenwood, who knows about this stuff you'd think, seems to think Faz is a passing wunderkind. Its kind of a shame, because otherwise seems a good bloke, unlike Barnes/Guscott. Bit like Jiffy, good bloke, somehow not a good pundit.ALunpg wrote:I would prefer to listen to almost anyone else excluding Barnes than to listen to Mr Greenwood's boy. Re: v AB'S - Second Test
Made the mistake of reading a BBC "Have Your Say" on the first test and it would seem that Daly was very poor, gave up lots of possession and territory with poor tackling and was personally responsible for two tries, getting 'skinned' by the hooker and then by Ioane. Would be interested in others thoughts?Mikey Brown wrote: It did make me appreciate Elliot Daly's performance more, he got the ball a good few times in horrible positions with defenders closing in and at least managed not to get smashed.

Re: v AB'S - Second Test
He got dragged in for the first try, may well have scored anyway (probably), and was simply gassed by the very rapid Ioane when trying to cover Williams's drop. He made a couple of other mistakes so definitely a mixed bag; but he did do some very good things, especially in his part in O'Brien's try, and in covering kicks.oldbackrow wrote:Made the mistake of reading a BBC "Have Your Say" on the first test and it would seem that Daly was very poor, gave up lots of possession and territory with poor tackling and was personally responsible for two tries, getting 'skinned' by the hooker and then by Ioane. Oh well if Sexton and Farrell can get the back three going then Gatland will be laughing. Just need to score 30 plus points to stand a chance.

Sexton could do that loop around thing and catch the ABs completely off guard.

Yes and hopefully each one will result in one of the 5 or 6 tries the Lions will probably need.

Will takes himself too seriously. Earnest looks into the camera and speaking in that reverential tone are a bit of a turn off.Banquo wrote:Its kind of a shame, because otherwise seems a good bloke, unlike Barnes/Guscott. He's not as bad as Scott Quinnell, correctly described as the Chris Kamara of rugby union in one forum post.
Is it too late to get David Flatman out to NZ?

Re: v AB'S - Second Test
What would a Lions tour be without Stephen Jones trying to get in the headlines:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/ar ... d=11884005
"He joked that he's been wearing a disguise since arriving in the country and hasn't been noticed.
"I've been in disguise actually. I've grown a fake beard and going around in a dress so no one knows it's me. And so far it's worked really well.""
No Stephen, no one actually gives a shit.
Anyway, thought I would post in the interests of spicing up the board a bit.
