I just got this crazy vision of 6 front row players all trying to hook the ball at the same time ..
Yep playing prop... the ball would often accidently strike my leg and go backwards

Props being allowed to strike seems a retrograde step. I can't see it helping.

What I don't want to see is a reset simply because the ball comes off the props foot.... and honestly ..that is a good change.
However props striking for the ball will never be an issue if they continue to ignore the feeding of the ball directly into the second row.

Exactly. Th issue is th lack of competition in the scrum. The side putting in already has an advantage due to the timing, but both sides should be able to strik for the ball.

I'm happy enough to have a look at what happens next. By instinct I don't like the 9 being able to shift further over, and I'd rather they'd said the team feeding had to strike or lose the ball and see what happened then without allowing the 9 to move off the line but also insisting the ball went in straight , but I'm okay to have a look and reflect

Agree with the reflection part totally
If it goes down the centre of the tunnel and the team with the put in have to strike and the others don't and can 8 man shove it swings it too far to them in my opinion. I think there should be a contest but always favour towards the team with the put in.
Before the 8 man shove became prevalent way back when, both teams hooked for the ball...since there is no clear statement that both teams must strike to win the ball in the latest law updates putting it under your own front rows legs is fair game and hopefully will stop resets and delays for technicalities that are nothe always appreciated by many.
But more critically it will hopefully decrease the crazy refereeing lottery of who did what where and when
