Why, most French sides seem to be made up of players from English speaking countries anywayEugene Wrayburn wrote:Referees would need to sharpen up their French if that were to happen, but yes that would be my preference.Flying Scarlet wrote:Think it is time that all the referees in Europe are put together under one umbrella so to speak & they officiate all competitions, so one week Nigel Owens could do Leinster v Glasgow & the next he could do Toulon v Castres.
This would improve the referees & also improve consistency across the major leagues & tournaments in Europe.

The players seem to manage ok in the European competitions & Internationals...Eugene Wrayburn wrote:Referees would need to sharpen up their French if that were to happen, but yes that would be my preference.Flying Scarlet wrote:Think it is time that all the referees in Europe are put together under one umbrella so to speak & they officiate all competitions, so one week Nigel Owens could do Leinster v Glasgow & the next he could do Toulon v Castres.

Im not sure that the language issue would be a huge problem. The Italian teams manage fine in our games. If one of the officials is French and can manage anything too complex, then the refereeing shouldn't be a major problem.
I think it adds to the perception of fairness; having all of the officials from the host nation looks bad, even if the game is refereed perfectly.

We still get your feckers refereeing your teams when we're at home!! Who pays for that?Eugene Wrayburn wrote:As I understand it that would defeat the whole putpose of the non-neutral referees as it's a cost cutting measure. Speak to tig about it. It's apparent to me that the French are at a disadvantage in a game of split second reactions where referees are encouraged to keep a commentary going if they have to translate most of what a referee is saying.Flying Scarlet wrote:The players seem to manage ok in the European competitions & Internationals...Eugene Wrayburn wrote:Referees would need to sharpen up their French if that were to happen, but yes that would be my preference.Flying Scarlet wrote:Think it is time that all the referees in Europe are put together under one umbrella so to speak & they officiate all competitions, so one week Nigel Owens could do Leinster v Glasgow & the next he could do Toulon v Castres.

Quite. I don't believe for a moment that there are significant sums saved.Tre wrote:We still get your feckers refereeing your teams when we're at home!!
