Attacker running at full tilt against a stationary defender is always going to cause problems if they can show some good footwork. Piatau couldn't commit until Watson did and his little feint wrong footed Piatau enough for an easy finish. Randall had the width of the pitch when he broke through, Steward tried to shepherd him to the narrow side and the touchline but once Randall managed to step to the outside it was an easy finish as Steward was never going to be able to turn and catch him (I don't think there's a fullback in the league quick enough to turn and chase down Randall).
There were a lot of errors in the game but some really nice attacking skill as well. Bristol pieces together some nice offloading passages and Pollard's two chips that led to tries were highlight reel stuff.
What caught my eye was just how good the two Tigers locks were both sides of the ball. Made a huge difference physically and helped Tigers ultimately control the game and get the win. I think Henderson is still dual qualified, maybe time to pinch him from under the nose of the Scots yet.

Watson wasn’t running at full tilt. He caught the ball pretty much stationary - absolutely quality finish.FKAS wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 6:46 pm Attacker running at full tilt against a stationary defender is always going to cause problems if they can show some good footwork. There are plenty of fullbacks who would be more confident in giving Randall more room on the outside in the knowledge they’d track him down once he committed.

That's one of the things that I'm hoping Brown can impart to Steward. Wasn't ever like Mikey had the fastest pair of feet in world rugby, but he made up for it with nous and knowing how to shut down an attacker's options. Steward's only 22 - he's still learning and hopefully is begging lessons off Brown, Ashton, Watson, etc.

Mike Brown's positional work was outstanding. I thought he was past it after his time at Newcastle but he's shown he's got plenty of life left in him. He's said he wants to contribute on and off the pitch is hopefully he is imparting some of the stuff he's learned along the way to some of the youngest backs. Just a shame we haven't got many back three players coming through to feed off that knowledge.Puja wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 8:49 pm That's one of the things that I'm hoping Brown can impart to Steward. England could do with Brown imparting some of the physical and mental hardness that he brought to the pitch. England.s belly is a soft one, and has been for a while

That's a great point. OHC working with Brown could really bring on his game. If he can get some high ball tips from Steward as well. OHC is a big lad and has a big boot alongside his finishing skills. Some refinement could see him an England regular yet.stepsider wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 9:54 pmOHC now one, thoughFKAS wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 9:06 pmMike Brown's positional work was outstanding.
