You can add the front row fatties and the Owen revolving door to the list of things they got right.

Farrell's tackling was perhaps the worst part of his game yesterday, I still wonder if he's not damaged himself and is trying to avoid tackling on purpose, overall much better from him though, that's good enough to seriously contend with Ford
And I suspect most people on here don't care what we look like, other than the stupid red crosses, and we're just pleased to have carriers back in the side, Christ it's a different game with actual carriers
constantly cynically challenging the offside line. Oh the Irony.

Suspect the thumb operation was in his mind.
I thought his alignment and communication with Youngs was poor, and he was a bit robotic (ie programmed to kick) and like Youngs wasted turnover ball; he has always been a decent passer right to left, but the pass to Daly was a beaut. Not his worst effort.
Agree on carriers, but more importantly a balance to the pack and especially back row. Doing that Irish pack over was no mean feat.

Put it down to his thumb on this one.
Yep, the carries were excellent and once we got good front foot ball the game became easier to play. Funny that.
Mind you our kicking was frustrating but looked very much planned.

I believe that was the only way he could word it without it sounding too much like praise.

Quite, and amazingly Ireland weren't quite so good when we were knocking them backwards. Wonders never cease.

Just seen the highlights on the Beeb and I'm happy with Slade continuing to run hard after his pass to May. If he'd passed to Mako then he'd need to slow but May is much faster, Slade isn't to know May will look to execute a skill moment as opposed to putting the pedal down

He called for the kick.

At which point?

Just after he gives the pass he points at the line and makes a run timed to gather a kick and not receive a pass. Hence the angst over in front of the kicker or not.

It's easy to forget that Ireland led at one stage.

I think he's just keeping speed up rather than timing. He ideally would perhaps have dropped back, but just thinking back to my own playing days (albeit a poor point of reference) I'd have kept running hard after having passed to a much faster player

To be fair to Slade, if May doesn't get cyniclly cleaned out after his kick, then he's going to be distant second to get to the ball.
Given Garces "balanced" reffing to this point it would have been interesting to see if he'd have pinged Slde for offside or carded the Irish defender for taking out May.

Probably binned May for taking out the Irish defender…
England were far from clean in that game, our discipline was all over the shop, but he definitely seemed to think Ireland needed the TMO help where as England didn't

Just rewatching… Fascinating moment at 77 minutes - Farrell given the ball after penalty, Ford and him then discuss it, and give it to Slade to clear the lines… Ford definitely looks to lead this decision

It seems to transpire that Mako was disallowed 10 points, one save, one score.
I also want say, tempered with an absolute claim that this does not come from any area of English arrogance......that Ireland were some team not to capitulate on Saturday. They kept playing.
We may never know - as an England fan we may not see that level of defence reached again - it maybe just a one off - but lesser teams would have been smashed to bits by 50mins.
I am totally expecting France to come and nick a win now i've put my head above the parapet.

Aye. He came and just calmly told his opinion and Farrell just instantly accepted it.

They did play a fast and dangerous game in atrocious conditions on Fri night, and were worthy of their lead at the break. If you could bottle Brunel's half-time team talk however, it would probably need a permanent seal.

At the time I thought Ford was relaying a message from Jones that they were to go for he jugular, hence Slade for the corner.

I watched that game in Austria on Fri night, few Welsh fans next to us. It was curious watching the French go about their business methodically in the first half, basically all they did was not fuck everything up. The Welsh just fucked everything up they could with the exception of Liam Williams who was fighting a lone battle. I remarked upon this at half time with the Welsh lads who had their heads in their hands, I said all is not lost, just get your shit together and see what happens. So they did. The transformation of the French was comical, they're always worth a watch

Some interesting enough stuff in here if you have 25 minutes to waste.
They get a bit jizzy over Farrell and Slade, but there you go. "The one man you don't want to kick the ball to is Owen Farrell" made me laugh. But he did do some very good things.
