Just been to a busy car park and crammed hall, lots of smiley peeps rushing hither & thither.Fortunately not there too long, and everyone was wearing masks.
AZ for us t'was.Reaction seems widely variable according to local anecdotals, so interesting to see what the body thinks of it.
Had AZ jab Thursday. In & out in 2mins. Only reaction I had was having to change my jammies twice overnight cos I was sweating so much and waking up feeling like I had gone 12 rounds with Fury. Was ok by lunchtime.
It may be an old wives' tale, but they reckon that having a reaction is better because it shows your body's immune system has actually done something about the invader rather than ignoring it.

its also a sign you may have had it already, asymptomatic an all that.

I think this is the case- a nephew (20's) had a bad case some months back, but needed the jab recently with the rest of his team as part of the job he is on.He & several others (all youngn's) had q.bad flu-like symptoms after, and needed to take a day off. The olden, possibly an antigen-virgin, got a sore arm. He'll maybe get the thwack on his 2nd dose, now he has been primed.
AZ: Yup, just sore arm next day after a night of mild chills/sweats,now gone.Had some immediate grogginess after jab with lump at injection point, which wasnae expecting.
All 4 others we know with AZ had similar flu-ey reaction, 4 we know with Pfiz. didnae (sore arm only).Advice would be arfa, or a day clear in the diary after the vacc appt. if poss...(though fri/sat dates seem to prevail here anyhoo.).
Believe the vector can itself invoke an immune response rendering it unsuitable for future use in some cases., meaning find-the-new-vector is part of the challenge for the traditional approach.
You can add Zinzan Brooke to the list of uninformed munter rugby personalities that have an over zealous affection for anecdote over data that is simply a thin veil for complete selfishness.

Need to keep that badboy on a short leash or it'll be back to square one
Where did you hear about the lack of efficacy boss?
That variant is already in the US and UK, and the wankers still flying across the globe from each place will all but ensure that another world-wide vaccination effort is all but certain.
Has anyone else noticed a trend in people receiving their vaccine, and thinking themselves bullet proof 3 days later, and that lockdown rules don't really apply to them?
Even my parents (ex-nurse and ex-GP) are happily mixing with others (whilst condemning those others for bigger breaches; but mixing with them anyway) within a week of being vaccinated!
FFS people. The vaccine just doesn't work that way. It gives your immune system a kick up the arse; and gives it some protein spike to identify and recognise earlier next time.
It (single dose) takes about 5 weeks to build up to ~66% less likely to develop symptoms - and if you do, then ~50% less likely to be hospitalised / die.
As far as I'm aware, we don't know yet how much - or even IF - it reduces your chances of being an asymptomatic shedder.
After being vaccinated, you can still catch Covid; you can still catch it badly; you can still die from it. You can absolutely certainly still spread it to other people.
hear hear...
Alot of oldies out comparing notes a few days after the first jab it seems..even heard a few say 'may not bother with the 2nd coz aleady safe enough..'
Done a good job getting where we are, but could do with Gov. banging the message home.
(joke..
-How do you get a Frenchman to get his vaccine ?
-Tell him he can't have it.. !)

The number of people not turning up for their first jab is quite concerning by itself, there are normally plenty of spare appointments in many areas, but I suspect the second vaccination will see a few drop out as they consider themselves safe now.
You can blame a lazy and ineffectual government for that. Yes, yes, personal responsibility and all that, but the less ambiguous and more demonstrably logical the centralised messaging, the easier it is to talk some sense into fuckwits that have become overnight authorities on immunity and virology.
Just having a look at the numbers...
Really shows how low the flu season has been this year - due to lockdown and social distancing. Take out covid, and there's been next to no winter surge. Take out covid, and 9 weeks worth of 2021 has seen 52,266 fewer deaths than the 5-year average.
Is anyone in the know about the Covid protocol in various countries? What happens when someone is positive, what's the advice, what happens when they get to hospital, etc?
There's a Romanian doctor who claims a 100% success rate in treating her patients as if they had a chest infection. She is known to family and is trusted as reliable. She is, however, a bronchologist (or whatever you call one of them, lol), so my thoughts are that she only gets patients who have...well...chest infections related to Covid, not other symptoms. But the question is: what are the other symptoms?
When someone is positive, they are isolated and housed in an aseptic environment until such time they recover. There is no effective treatment because there is no drug that nukes this species of coronavirus. This is not country specific, it is a consensus course of action rooted in biological reality. You isolate the patient, dampen the immune response with steroids and hope to fuck the body heals without having to intubate. The doctor is peddling anecdote . There is no drug, course of treatment or biologic that therapeutically targets coronavirus. This bears repeating, and if your doctor is claiming such in the absence of hard data, then that doctor is irresponsible to the point of violating the Hippocratic oath.
It’s a global pandemic, not a localized infection that is the product thereof.
