Re: Ireland to finish
Looking forward to the media praising Farrell’s grit and intensity and ignoring the fact that yet again with him at 10 nothing happened in attack.
Pack stepped up (although question has to be asked why it took an absolute pasting for them to bother), apart from that zero progress forward. Attack still dead. Arundell took the OH-C role of may as well not be there.

Well we weren’t embarrassed and down to 14, so I’ll take that. If we’d stayed at 15 it might’ve been uncomfortable for Ire.

It did and we had an OK chance of winning up till that point, But that's rugby 2023

Yup. No idea if it’s an upside or a downside but we were kinda competitive despite a ludicrous first half penalty count and loads of missed tackles.
One thing, if a back is sent off, you really need to sub a forward off imo. But then I was a back.

Shame about the red, unfortunate but also a tad dull to turn the shoulder in

Ireland deserved the GS. What a shame that the headline will be, 'Joke referee from SA fucks up 6N finale!'

Some on this board are unreal. If anyone think Smith makes a difference in that game is deluded.
Cue the angry response from everyone that blames Farrell for all our problems.

Not vintage rugby from either team.
Pity about Steward's red card - yellow would have been enough.
Fair play to England for making a tough game of it after last week's terrible performance. But they still lack organization and flair and will not move forwards with Faz at 10.
Ireland managed to do enough against 14 men but did play some sloppy stuff.
Poor old Smith probably feels he should have stayed at home with his feet up.

I'm really not that bothered about the red or yellow but jesus wept a lot of those technical penalty calls smacked of a ref looking for reasons.
Even if you can say that its a technical call fir a lot of them you can't forgive Hansen dragging Watson back over the line by his throat not getting even a 2nd look

No f…in internet connection this afternoon, probably due to those on strike against that tw@t Macron. Anyway, before the totally unjustified red, the game was nicely balanced and England were in with a chance if spoiling the party. Surely it should’ve been judged as a «rugby collision » and play continued? I can’t remember the number of penalties against both teams but as sure as night follows day the ref had it in for England. Peyper deserves to be excluded from any involvement at the World Cup.

Yeah, Farrell's grit and his much vaunted defence too I'm sure. Only missed 6 tackles today (made 11). As for Arundell - he got 3 touches today and managed to make 43 metres off of it. That's pretty impressive, you'd think we might try to get the ball to him more. Although his defence was shocking.
We stood up a bit better in defence generally, which is something I guess. All stats courtesy of ESPNscrum.

And two times turned over from the 3 touches. Lad had a tough game but still remains a great prospect. Needs to be well managed by the coaching team.Insouciant wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 8:37 pmYeah, Farrell's grit and his much vaunted defence too I'm sure. Only missed 6 tackles today (made 11). Re: Ireland to finish
I thought the pack showed up today but it's no use doing it sporadically. The lack of ambition from England was quite evident. Ireland were always going to score tries yet England thought they could outscore Ireland by kicking only relatively easy pens (which handily raised Farrell's terrible kicking % that the English media have put a speaking ban on) or the odd rolling maul. Of all the 6 teams today, England showed the least in terms of attacking intent which made employing Nick Evans a pointless exercise.

What responses are you seeing that are so unreal? Not sure if I missed something.Dorsetrugby wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 7:16 pm Some on this board are unreal. If anyone think Smith makes a difference in that game is deluded.

Farrell wasn’t the reason we didn’t win, but the idea of just accepting you’ll never really get much going in attack grates with people for good reason. If we can’t even manage (or want to try) to use Smith as a hail-mary attacking option then we shouldn’t bother with him in the squad at all.
Farrell has had a few nice touches across the tournament, but also quite a few moments where he telegraphs what he’s doing so heavily (or doesn’t even pretend like he’s going to challenge the line when winding up a pass/kick) that it becomes so easy for a defence to read. It’s just so fucking boring to watch.
If those grubbers came off more than 1 in 10 times that would be nice too. You know what, you’re right. It is all Farrell’s fault.

Re: Ireland to finish
It's not Farrell's fault, but the blind mantra of playing for territory and waiting for a sympathetic penalty in forward play when you are a man down is just depressing. There is just no motivation for a 15 man strike off a set play, let alone a hunger to get you some on the counter. Practically zero attempt to put some pace on it and use some of those rapid units you have. Dull coach Mark II.
