Jesus fuck. That kind of propaganda doesn't suggest that Russia is even slightly considering looking at a negotiated peace. Even if we assume that Putin himself doesn't believe that (which is not a given), that is not rhetoric which allows any room for a graceful climbdown/declaring that you've won and have achieved what you wanted all along. That's doubling down on the only option being the complete annexation of the country.
It's also the kind of propaganda that could justify nuking the country in a "better dead than Nazi" fit of pique.

Loving the use of the concept of denazification as an excuse for NAZI policies.
Not going to be much forgiveness when the fighting's done.

Also explains the prevalence of the atrocities left behind by Russian troops - extensive othering of even the general populace as monsters. Anyone who fought wasn't really a person that one could empathise with, they were a Nazi with no more humanity than an orc or an Uruk-hai.

Thought I'd copy those disgusting quotes to the thread for ease of reference (in case they become hard to find on Twitter):
An op-ed for state news agency RIA Novosti titled "What Russia should do with Ukraine" by pundit Timofei Sergeitsev has created quite a stir today
The rhetoric is truly horrific, even by the standards of what I'm used to seeing from pro-Kremlin media
Below are a few quotes:
"Denazification is a set of measures aimed at the nazified mass of the population, which technically cannot be subjected to direct punishment as war criminals"
"However, besides the elite, a significant part of the masses of the people, who are passive nazis, are accomplices to Nazism. They have supported the Nazi authorities and indulged them..."
"...The just punishment for this part of the population is possible only as the bearing of the inevitable hardships of a just war against the Nazi system"
"The name Ukraine can seemingly not be retained as the title of any fully denazified state formation on the territory liberated from the Nazi regime"
"Denazification is inevitably also deukrainisation – a rejection of the large-scale artificial inflation of the ethnic element of self-identification of the population of the territories of the historical Malorossiya and Novorossiya begun by the Soviet authorities"
"Unlike, let’s say, Georgia or the Baltics, Ukraine, as history has shown, is unviable as a national state, and attempts to 'build' one logically lead to Nazism"
"The Banderite elite must be liquidated, its reeducation is impossible. The social 'swamp' which actively and passively supports it must undergo the hardships of war and digest the experience as a historical lesson and atonement" END

Looks like sh*t or bust for VP in the east now;
will ego/fear of humiliation (and being removed..) override prospect of further massive losses in human and material terms, and tanking international standing.? seems past caring.
The number of persons directly affected (dead, disappeared, displaced) appears astronomical already.

NATO now having to work out if they continue to keep martial support to defensive systems only or start providing more advanced weaponry. Ukrainians don’t have much artillery ammunition left which is a problem as the calibre of their shells isn’t a nato one and old stocks are depleting fast. NATO could supply 155mm weapons but that would need training.
Should have considered this weeks ago and got on with it.

It totally is. He needs something he can signal as a victory. Expanding the size of the breakaway regions and claiming to have destroyed Ukrainian military capability might work with a lot of propaganda. Dictatorships don’t tend to survive failure for too long and he isn’t ignorant of that.

As a Welshman I guess the message they're both trying to send to Putin with such a stunt would be encapsulated by the phrase 'ry'n ni yma o hyd er gweitha pawb a phopeth.'

Don’t panic. The Czech, Polish and Slovenian PMs have already wasted resources, time and contested airspace to visit Kyiv, as have a couple of the EU big wigs.
You might not be able to hear the mood music in Philly but the UK’s response to this ‘special military operation’ is actually close to, if not the, best in class as far as the Ukrainians and Volodymyr ‘Balls of Steel’ Zelenskyy are concerned:
‘in a Facebook post, Andriy Sybiha, deputy head of the Ukrainian president’s office said: “The UK is the leader in defence support for Ukraine. The leader in the anti-war coalition. The leader in sanctions against the Russian aggressor.”’ https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/amp/en ... 2bd5537e2/

While I have a great amount of disdain for Boris and regard him visiting people as a punishment rather than a boon, Kiev isn't really contested airspace anymore and I'd imagine we've informed the Russians of both his flight path and the repurcussions should they attack his flight. It's not really a big risk like it would've been a fortnight ago.

Plane to Poland and then car journey the rest of the way, allegedly. U.K. security bods wanted him out of the country before releasing details, pics etc but the Ukraine Embassy in the U.K. got a bit over excited.
Love the Ukraine govt’s Twitter post ‘because they bloody can’:

No offence taken. You should treat any politicians actions with a healthy dose of scepticism and when it comes to the likes of Boris an unhealthy dose. I just feel that whilst the govt have rightly been given a shed load of bad press over refugees there should also be praise where it’s due. In this case we’ve led on intel, arms and sanctions.

Sssshhhhh nothing must be written that doesn't show Boris or the UK in a negative light. This is the way.
In writing that, I have become a permanent and unforgivable apologist, but you must learn from my sacrifice.
