Have you seen the Sir Bobby Charlton quote currently trending on social media ?. Bobby was asked how he thought the '66 team would have fared against Iceland.
'1-0 to us, I think' says Bobby.
'Only 1-0...?' asks the reporter.
'Well, most of us are in our 70's now' he replies.

Probably apocryphal.

In light of the recent calls for ex-players with little or no experience being mooted for the England job, I've been thinking about starting a petition to demand Carlton Palmer be considered for the position as the new manager.

Played for England = Check
Been part of an unsuccessful campaign = Check
Lacks international coaching experience = Check
Lacks coaching experience = Uncheck

Seems to tick a lot of boxes.

What could go wrong?

They have been worse than England, but Portugal are through to the semis!

So, what do we think of Wales' chances later?

Belgium are a decent team with star quality players, although I certainly wouldn't rate them as #2 in the world. They're in some good form at the moment though.

Whoever wins tonight will have a superb chance of making the final as Portugal have been very ordinary.

My head says Belgium but I'm hoping we can score on the counter, their defence is nothing special.

Wales have 2 attacking players of high quality so are good value for a goal or two against any team.
Les diables rouges are a potent attacking force so it depends on how well Wales can marshall their defence. Outsiders for this one but I'd back them against Portugal.

I think it was on "They Think it's All Over" when they showed a picture of Carlton at the time of said hopscotch feat, suffice it to say I haven't seen trousers worn so highly up the body since watching "O Brother Where Art Thou"

I missed the last Belgium game, and by the sounds of it it was the first time they got close to living up to their hype. Every time I've seen them over the last 2-3 years (including the WC) their attack has been completely ineffectual and they've struggled to score.

On paper they are a much better side, but most could say that going up against Wales. I have no doubt Wales are the better "team" though, this is certainly a winnable game.

It was against Hungary. Hungary's best defender is either 33 year old Juhasz, with no pace at all, or Kadar, who was rejected from Newcastle...

They fell apart completely after the first goal, it was embarrassing. So, no, I don't think it was a sign that Belgium are in good form. Sure, they look a lot better now they don't have Fellaini in the XI, but they look far from a world beater.

Wales have a great chance.

Plus, I would hate a semi of Portugal v Belgium. I'd want both to lose :(

Wales are unbeaten against Belgium in the last 3 meetings. I would still have Belgium as heavy favourites but hope and wouldn't be too surprised if Wales pull something out of the bag. As has been mentioned Belgium defence is a weakness, so there will be chances if we don't play too deep.

Go, Wales! It's not often I support British teams at any sport, but they are one of the fairy-tale teams at this event.

I wonder if the past month's international sporting action is going to have any kind of long-term effect on the Welsh sporting landscape. If you were a kid in Cardiff or Swansea right now, which sport would you be taking up?

1-0 Belgees, 13 mins.
great strike Naingollen but afforded too much space.

Wales just passed the ball more in 5 mins. than
Eng. managed in the whole Iceland game.
It must have been an awful pitch down there, hot too...
Another yellae though..Belgees will play on this.
Could be trouble later..ref. looks flaky.

Half time 1-1
