Re: COVID19
You will not know if you're immune to this or a mutated version in round 2, 3, 4,... and too you'd need more than one test showing you're currently negative for the virus. I think

I know, it's only a test to show if you have the antigens...one of the reasons I'm not too fussed about having the test is I don't think it makes much difference.Digby wrote:You will not know if you're immune to this or a mutated version in round 2, 3, 4,... and too you'd need more than one test showing you're currently negative for the virus. It's not going to change my behaviour, so why would I?

Re: COVID19
Agreed. Italy is in a bad shape, but certain factors are in play there which make transmission easier and give it greater impact which don't really happen here so much. That said, we have factors that will help/hinder the virus which are unique so there is only so much that can be understood from other countries data.Eugene Wrayburn wrote:There's not a massive amount of point in comparing raw numbers across countries it seems to me. What you can usefully look at is progression in other countries to predict progression in your own and the effect of certain restrictions. Obviously there are cultural differences and weird outliers - something decidedly weird is going on in Japan's numbers - which will affect all these things. The rate of doubling of deaths is probably the best indicator we have.
Anyway my favourite resource with apologies if it has already been shared is: https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus# ... m-covid-19
It is fairly apparent though that COVID19 has the potential to do a lot of damage if no mitigations are put in place which makes the stance of some world leaders truly baffling.

I'd love to know what the other deaths in that spike have been attributed to. I'm assuming that is a victim had cancer then the cause of death has been recorded as cancer rather than COVID19 which has caused that death to be premature?Donny osmond wrote:In pictorial formcanta_brian wrote:This is the one.Which Tyler wrote:

Only 31 deaths were attributed to Covid-19"
Of course, some of those will be undiagnosed COVID deaths, and some secondary as equipment and care isn't available for others when capacity is taken up with COVID.

The lack of quick-test availabilty is flooring key infrastucture function right now - 30-50% off as corrrct response to instructions not atypical....if you are in a busy household there could be contiguous and sequential responses.
The blurred edge between seasonal lurgy symptoms and early Covid symptoms makes it worse, and the take-no-chance necessity.

COVID 19 is notifiable, therefore is recorded as cause of death if no other notifiable condition is present. So not a totally clear picture.Sandydragon wrote:I'd love to know what the other deaths in that spike have been attributed to. My wife and I have been offered tests by a client of my wife's, but I'm unsure whether we should take them. On one hand, it would be good to know if we've had it, so are currently immune, but on the other hand, it could potentially be a lot more use to someone else.
If you are positive, you then know to stay the fuck away from anyone, and the data is useful. There is no treatment for coronavirus. Basically it's supplemental oxygen for as long a period as it takes the body to heal itself. What's the diff if you or someone else gets tested in that environment?

Would the cancer patient have died if they weren't exposed to the virus? Ditto flu and other ailments. That's the evil genius of swamping health facilities all at once. The trickle down is devestating.

Because we've completely self-isolated, so if we had it, it's gone already? I guess you're right, I just thought there was a potential shortage of testing kits and more at risk or less isolated people should be tested first (we live deep in the suburbs, we're pretty damn isolated).morepork wrote:Stom wrote:That's the thing, I have also been symptomatic, but those symptoms can also be attributed to other things, too.canta_brian wrote: That’s what I was trying to do at 4 am! If the test is serology-based and you've been exposed to the virus, you will be immuno-positive for your lifetime, more or less. If the test is PCR-based, you may have cleared it out and that one may come back negative even if you have been exposed.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

If you aren't interested in actual deaths it doesn't matter that they are under-reporting as long as they do that consistently.canta_brian wrote:Reported deaths though. On the increase of deaths without them being attributed to Covid, you'd expect that with Health resources being swamped. Chemotherapies are being cancelled, ventilators are available for accident victims etc etc.

Is that all trials by jury? If so that's mental. In England there's just an acceptance that you have to delay. That might mean many defendants stay in custody for longer, but at least that's unconvicted.

FOI.. ScotGov have a fair old number of skeletons in cupboards we don`t even know about.
It`s been difficult enough to get unredacted FOI under present rules, this will allow them to bury more of their shit.
