According to the BBC Boris now has 53 public supporters. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t make 100!

I think it would be better if he did win. I don’t want Sunak bringing any respectability back to the ToriesSandydragon wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 8:12 pm According to the BBC Boris now has 53 public supporters. Here’s hoping that he doesn’t make 100!

Could be another 2 years until the next election and Boris and his ERG nutter mates can do a lot more damage in that time.Stom wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 2:20 pmI think it would be better if he did win. Wikipedia are going to need a bigger graph: Labour polling 62% vs Tories on 16%. A mere 46% lead.

Boris ain't standing - RiSu will give him a senior role presumably.
He claims to have enough backers, so is stepping aside in the interest of unity..

Bullshit.
He probably didn’t have the 100 or maybe just scraped past and realised that in the indicative vote he would get mullered. If Sunak gives him a role then it will just be to keep him vaguely quiet, although May tried that and it didn’t work.

He says 102 - the prospect of the membership again countering the mp collective wish, especially with the schism it would cause would be a vote for xmas.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 9:18 pm..

Not sure if Penny will fall into line now to speed things up or if enough erstwhile Bozzers can flip over to her to extend the intrigue and confusion.. Zahawi has gone over to Sunak.

Surprised both Braverman and Badenoch backed Sunak. Maybe they just hate Mordaunt even more.
With Johnson out of the way, Mordaunt will pick up all the anti-Sunak votes, but is that enough?

According to the Mail:
“For the good of the party and the country (1), Mr Johnson set his dream aside (2). This is a gesture of wisdom, honour and statesmanship (3). His time will come again (4).”
Notes:
1. This is actually true.
2. Yes, but his dream is just to show everyone he's the best, no matter the cost.
3. Perhaps accidentally copied from an article about someone with wisdom, honour and statesmanship?
4. Just fuck off.

I hope so.Rishi Sunak will face ‘ungovernable’ Tory party, warns Johnson supporter
MP Christopher Chope says there will be continuing rebellions unless Sunak holds general election if he becomes PM
Go against a couple of 3-line whip votes (or just resign the whip on principal); get themselves deselected, and either force a GE directly, or go along with a vote of no confidence, and force a GE.
Then the likes of JRM, Francois, Redwood and Robertson can join whatever's left of UKIP - where they actually belong; and never be seen in Westminster again (or at least, not until we have PR - which would be a win in itself).

Chope has the benefit of knowing that, even if the best case opinion polls carry through to an election, he will be holding onto his seat. Labour might only need 30-35 Conservative MPs to vote with them on a no-confidence, but I think they'll struggle to find enough turkeys willing to vote for Christmas. I don't even think Dorries would vote for it, given that it would likely see her one true love lose his Uxbridge seat.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:28 pm

This result has disappeared from the page. Perhaps it was a mistake or a hack?Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 8:45 pm Wikipedia are going to need a bigger graph: Labour polling 62% vs Tories on 16%. A mere 46% lead.

Anyway, I guess Labour will have to make do with leads in the 30s.

Re: Snap General Election called
Huh. Never heard of that treaty before, but a quick google suggests it's one of those pieces of law enacted for a very specific situation that no-one really thought through that well and vested interests have let stay in place. It was designed to encourage energy firms to work in former Soviet Countries by providing a guarantee that they could sue if the governments enacted policies that screwed them over, but in modern times have allowed oil companies to sue Italy for banning offshore drilling.
Good work by the French (and it appears the Italians and Belgians too). Hopefully the UK follows suit.

Bravermann back in as Home Secretary. Guess she really learned a lot during the few days that she "took responsibility" for mishandling confidential information.

Chope probably has his letter of no confidence in with the 1922 already. The bloke just highlights everything wrong with the Conservative party. He also has one of the safest seats in the UK.cashead wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 10:10 pmlmao, don’t threaten us with a good timeWhich Tyler wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:28 pmRishi Sunak will face ‘ungovernable’ Tory party, warns Johnson supporter

Suella Braverman....what a charming individual. Her Public Order bill seems to take square aim at the right to protest. Not only are these muppets sinking the economy, they are actively suppressing civil rights in order to 86 any opposition to their ineptitude. It's Kamikaze ideology. Absolutely astounding.
