I don't remember him losing it. Seems to have a much better handle on his temper than Sinkler and Marler. Scrummaging seems very solid, and it's always good to have another solid carrier.
We've seen with Sinkler, he doesn't put in as many carries for England as he can manage for Quins, and they aren't quite as effective, but Genge coming on with 20 minutes to play, sounds like a fantastic idea to me.

You've got a point on the discipline - he's always there on the edge, putting his face in others and shoving around, but he seems to be able to wind it back in when the ref starts paying attention to him. Last game was a case in point - the ref has a word with Ford telling him "1 needs to be careful" and after that we don't get another Genge aggro incident.Epaminondas Pules wrote:It is a little odd this Genge talk. He's a loose cannon with a disciplinary record that is far superior to the likes of Marler over the same period. Don't seem to have seen much talk about Marler being a loose cannon. He's feisty, but for example how many yellows or reds for that edginess? Two yellow cards in the last three seasons total! And his play won't translate? Seriously? You lot talk some shit at times.
By the way 5 caps, 3 starts, 2 sub appearances.
Want to be careful that he doesn't get more of a reputation though as some refs will start looking for him earlier

Much like Sinckler, Genge just needs a decent run in and around the England team and he’ll quickly establish himself as a very good test loosehead. There’s nothing ‘un-transferable’ about Genge’s abilities.

You don’t remember people talking about Marler being a liability? Is that a joke? It appeared the consensus on here was he is next in line after Mako, and probably where Sinkler was a season or two ago (with similar issues) and he is now looking very classy.Epaminondas Pules wrote:It is a little odd this Genge talk. How many people said he won’t be able to step up? I just couldn’t remember if he’d put in as comprehensive an all round performance as Moon had for England at any point yet. Granted, he hasn’t had many chances.

A comprehensive all round game that included 2 carries for zero meters in four games. Not two carries per game, in total.

If our entire front row are serious carrying options it'd really help given our options in the backrow

Yeah, I don't buy the Moon love. He did OK. But his hands are made of concrete and he didn't make much impact with the ball.Mikey Brown wrote:You don’t remember people talking about Marler being a liability? Is that a joke? I'd have Genge in there everyday. I think he's a player who could step up. He just has that (only just) controlled aggression we see in the best forwards. Not Dan Cole, who seems to have the aggression of a stick of celery these days.

Re: EPS Watch / Player Form Thread
I’m not arguing they were star performances. I’m saying he made a real impact in the scrum and tackle and was generally just pretty “solid”. I’ll take that for a debutant in a crisis, particularly in a front row alongside George and Sinkler.Epaminondas Pules wrote:Mikey Brown wrote:You don’t remember people talking about Marler being a liability? If Genge can do that and add his carrying and general feistiness then great. I just wasn’t aware he’d done it yet?

Re: EPS Watch / Player Form Thread
I've been watching on, a bit bemused by the enthusiasm for Moon too. He's a decent enough player but a lot of people seem to have been genuinely surprised that he'd give a passable impression of an international LH prop. Matt Mullan anyone? Nothing wrong with having players like these around the edge of the squad of course, but Genge has a higher ceiling. I want to see more of him rather than more of Moon.Stom wrote:Yeah, I don't buy the Moon love. He did OK. The Moon thing is a good narrative. 7th? choice loosehead doesn't s*** the bed isn't as much fun to write. Even his awful pass was turned into a positive as spinning it as a proper prop pass. He got over the top praise for not being awful, and he was actually quite good in the scrum, even better. But he's not going to be leaping up the prop ladder over taking those who ere previous chosen before him, in my mind.

This is all very over the top for one person saying Genge probably won’t kick on. Long may it continue.

Re: EPS Watch / Player Form Thread
I think Moon deserves credit.
He’s shown he can be relied upon to perform well against top class opposition which is not to be sniffed at.
I’m a big fan of Genge and he offers a stronger all-round game, but I’d say Moon has laid down enough of a marker to be considered Mako’s understudy for now. Genge has the ability to leapfrog him for sure, but I think Moon will be retained for the 6 Nations which means Genge will have limited game time to press a claim.

You see, I'd want time into Genge. He could be exactly what we need. Moon can be parachuted in at any time, it's not as if he's going to be heavily involved in any attack moves.Scrumhead wrote:I think Moon deserves credit.

Re: EPS Watch / Player Form Thread
Moon has credit in the bank. Coming in as a new cap and playing well against top sides will have done him no harm at all. Having a guy like him, unflashy, solid, dependable is very handy to any coach. The comparison to Matt Mullan is spot on. Remember that Mullan never let England down.
Thats doesnt mean he is now ahead of Genge, who i regard as the better all rounder and infinitely more dynamic. Just that he is a proven performer who has shown he can deliver.
If only our 4th/5th/6th choice SH had come in and played so well we couldnt think of dropping him.

Agreed. Whoever said Moon was the new Matt Mullan hit the nail on the head - he's a really useful option to have and it's good to know he can be relied upon if we need him. However, he's never going to be anything more than reliable, so we're better seeing what we can build from a Mako/Genge partnership.Stom wrote:You see, I'd want time into Genge. Mind, all three will be injured before the 6N, so it'll be a moot point.

Didn't seem worthy of its own thread, but at what point can Worcester simply sack Te'o as he clearly doesn't actually play for them?

Poor lad. He obviously needs a break after his hectic playing schedule.
He's taking the p**** and should be dismissed. He has shown not the slightest interest in turning out for Worcesters.

Bath Rugby can confirm that Matt Garvey and Sam Underhill are going to be out of action following injuries sustained in the win against Leicester Tigers on Sunday.
Garvey suffered a fracture to his ankle and is expected to need surgery, which will keep him out for around three months. Underhill sustained ligament damage to his ankle and further detail around his expected return will be provided after his specialist review.

Good to hear Itoje due back next week. A few players coming back at just the right time to get match fit for the 6N.
BillyV looked predictably off the pace tonight, but will be better for having had a run out. Anyone else think he looks like he's a bit trimmer after his layoff?
