Re: Team for Georgia
Like you lot, I'm not particularly happy with him dropping Bradbury, but Harley is alright. I like how the cat plays rugby.
Shame Jones is injured, but Bennett is class.
That team doesn't alleviate the concern I had at the beginning of the week about our pack getting outgunned in set pieces. Then again, there was no way it would.

Re: Team for Georgia
Apart from back row Im happy enough as long as Price gets on. Over the series we have given some new faces a chunk of game time and as long as we win on Saturday, put up a good fight.
Had kinda forgotten Harleybwas in the squad. I wouldnt have picked him but might help with the slow ruck ball problem. He is one of our only actual 6s too. Strange not to give Bradbury another chance but I suspect Wilson would have started last week if he had been fit to train all week. He also did decently off the bench

Has Cotter got a daughter? Does she know Hoyland? Just asking...

I like Harley but I'll be staggered if he suddenly makes the leap to being international class. What a waste of a game where we could look at Bradbury/CDP/Price/Hughes/Hoyland etc.
Tosser.

Set piece will be about the same though Harley is a cracking lineout option. Think the Georgians went well there last week so maybe that's another consideration.Edinburgh in Exile wrote:Like you lot, I'm not particularly happy with him dropping Bradbury, but Harley is alright. CDP has earned chuff all, and while I think Hoyland will be a good international (and at the start I'd have preferred him), Hughes has been in good form of late and provides a very direct option if required.Mikey Brown wrote:It's fucking ridiculous. Hughes was on the list.
Maybe CDP is more my curiosity because I haven't seen him much and we have a host of underwhelming 8s.

Re: Team for Georgia
Good to see the old hyperbole returned
Remember when we were lucky that we had 15 guys out and 5 were not totally crap
Harley is a class operator and is very good at shutting down the first man from the ruck, I have been quite surprised that he hasn't quite stepped up to the mark the way I expected him to.
Ill back VC and say he is picking guys who he thinks will get the job done, its a lighter back row so clearly he thinks that the breakdown won't be as contested as last week and he wants the players to play wider
Also like the fact that he is keeping with his young props, this experience will be invaluable to them and benefit us in the long term

Re: Team for Georgia
Yeah, my concerns about the pack has nothing to do with our personnel. I don't really think we've got anyone avalible to match them in the scrum. Good point on Harley in the linout. I honestly feel like we fuck up our own lineout all by ourselves without the opposition having to do all that much. Perhaps that's doing the teams we play against, and the pressure they put on us a disservice.hp18 wrote:Set piece will be about the same though Harley is a cracking lineout option. It was only going to be one, and I've seen a lot of debate over who is more deserving etc. Wouldn't expect either to start.Mikey Brown wrote:Hughes was on the list.

Yeah, we're basically fucked at scrum time. It will however be a good learning experience for Ragnar and Pentium 4.Edinburgh in Exile wrote:Yeah, my concerns about the pack has nothing to do with our personnel. I don't think Georgia is a match for the RG scrum, they are a good unit but id expect us to be under the same sort of pressure as RG, hopefully we can get the backs better quality ball which means even if we do lose a few scrums its not the end of the world
We really need to score a good few tries to set us up for the 6N

Re: Team for Georgia
Disappointed Bradbury has been totally left out this is the type of game he could have been deadly off the bench. I would imagine he and CdP have been released to Embra. The only reason for picking CdP would be to cap him, he has no form to speak of.
I like Harley and he's been fucked about having to mess with the engine room in the second row, but he needs a decent performance on Saturday. He is capable so hopefully he will.
Glad the props are left in with Allan on the bench. All money in the bank for the young ones. Having Snr back will be a boost. Bennett is a classy operator too.

Having thought about it, it will be interesting to see how we go with a genuine number 6 for change. I suppose against a pack like Georgia's we need someone that's main job is to tackle absolutely everything that moves.

Interesting that 18 (?) of that 23 were developed in Glasgow to some extent. That's not including Ford who was signed for them for what must have been 10 minutes.

Re: Team for Georgia
That's not a penalty.
Well that start could have been better. Ford and Harley going for a cuddle rather thank actually rucking.
Then Seymour waving the boy through and Laidlaw missing a tackle that shouldn't be missed.

That's a try. Remember seeing that scrummie as a 17 year old in the world cup and thought that he had loads of potential. Good try, good finish.
At least there is plenty of time to come back.
