Re: Team for Scotland
Well if this does anything useful...it should end speculation that Wales have captured the change that is necessary...then it will reduce the number of Welsh Lions players so we can spend the summer developing some challenge in the future...and that Howley is the real deal.

Yep...you are right thats what it will be.. but...we can only hope that Gareth Davies and the Welsh Management get the wake up call that is needed...we are not competitive.Buggaluggs wrote:Howley: bla bla bla bla bla bla bla. Boys. Hands up. Bla bla bla bla bla. Lessons learned. Bla bla bla bla

They put the pressure on in the second half and we went to pieces. Very poor.

Re: Team for Scotland
Very bad. We usually are strong at the end. At least Ireland were coming back strongly when the Scots beat them. Not sure if we ran out of steam, but we certainly ran out of ideas (not that we had many to start off with). Again the Faletau/Moriarty substitution didn't seem to work, albeit not so blindingly obviously as last time. Kind of Howley to put Sam Davies on needing to score two tries in, what was it, 12 minutes??
First loss to Scotland in 10 years, well done Howley, back to the gyppo days (in fact we lost by more today than in 2007... 16 points, which will mean an extra hit to our ranking points). Hopefully this means that the WRU will stop burying its head in the sand and realise that they will need to find a proper coach to replace Gatland (how about Cotter?). I mean would Leinster or Toulon or Saracens hire Howley? Not sure it's King's fault or Howley's, but our attack is as faulty as ever.
We have lost the Championship, so let's at least try out some things... Sam Davies, Liam Williams at full back, at least get Keelan Giles onto the bench, get Beck into the squad too if possible. Not sure that AWJ's captaincy is looking too great at the moment, but let's persevere with that for now.

Yes, this will (or should) have decimated the Lions chances of quite a few Welsh players... not necessarily a bad thing.ALunpg wrote:Well if this does anything useful...it should end speculation that Wales have captured the change that is necessary...then it will reduce the number of Welsh Lions players so we can spend the summer developing some challenge in the future...and that Howley is the real deal.

Re: Team for Scotland
I'm more than happy that some of our players have the summer to work on their game rather than get seven bells knocked out of them with the Lions. Although knowing us we will send a full strength team to the summer tour and not use it for development.
Tournament is gone now, we might as well try those players who are putting their hands up for inclusion. Please, no more 'one last opportunity to redeem themselves'.
What made this loss completely dire was the self destruction we seemed to achieve in the second half. Taking nothing away from a good Scottish performance, but at time we were woeful with ball in hand. The players looked like they just didn't know what they were trying to achieve. If anything, it reminded me of the loss under Graham Henry to Ireland which signalled the end of his reign. I doubt we will sack a caretaker coach so I have no confidence in any changes being made.

My thoughts on the substitutions. Front row: seccesful, the scrum improved through the game. Ball going off, probably a good move. Scott Williams replaced with the Doc: Why? Jamie would be ok if we are slowing down a game, defending and closing out, not ideal when we need to score quickly. Davies: too late to do anything. Big ask trying to pull back 2 try's. unless players were injured or tiring, why change a team too much that played well for the first half.

Watching that game I'm wondering why Williams and Halfpenny play that way around. Leaving aside whether Halfpenny should be in the team or not Williams seems to offer so much more threat running the ball back and is superb under the high ball whilst halfpenny initially broke through on the wing.

Halfpenny did show up midfield a little in the match so they must have swapped places at some point, presumably quite briefly...Sandydragon wrote:I think we are all equally baffled.switchskier wrote:Watching that game I'm wondering why Williams and Halfpenny play that way around. That did alarm me. I thought the 4 year cycle had come round again and it was time for Halfpenny to have another good game in attack.Son of Mathonwy wrote:Halfpenny did show up midfield a little in the match so they must have swapped places at some point, presumably quite briefly...Sandydragon wrote:I think we are all equally baffled.switchskier wrote:Watching that game I'm wondering why Williams and Halfpenny play that way around. Re: Team for Scotland
Howler has proved that he is not the man to take over once Gatland leaves, this coaching team has been in place too long, I feel the whole set up has gone stale, and they should all be removed whenever that is financially possible, we are saddled with them until the next world cup IMO.
Why can't George North tackle? he's like a revolving door, opponents pass him with ease, for such a big man this is baffling.
We can't have the captain being overruled, gobby Biggar needs a good talking to, to keep his trap shut.
The sooner this Howlercaust is over the better, what price we hear this again "we'll give the players another chance to redeem themselves."
They are too conservative and scared to fail to try new players, Howler, McBride, Jenkins, Edwards, Gatland, do us all a favor and fuck off.

Surely Wales can convince Dai Young to take over after this season finishes? (I'd prefer you didn't, as I like wasps, and don't want Wales to find any form any time soon but…)

What has Dai Young won though? he seems to be doing well with Wasps, but I'd rather wait until he's a proven winner before he takes the Welsh job, I think he will get it at some point.Renniks wrote:Surely Wales can convince Dai Young to take over after this season finishes? IMO being Welsh and being a rugby coach should not be the only criteria for the job, as it seems to have been in the case's of Howler and McBride, been there done that, we need top proven coaches from now on, not guys who will "grow" into the job.

Re: Team for Scotland
Totally. The WRU needs to ignore nationality when it comes to coaches. This attitude is about to bite Scotland as they've sacked the coach who's brought them this success in favour of a Scot. We don't want to do likewise when Gatland goes (even if every sign says that we will).Lord Lucan wrote:What has Dai Young won though? he seems to be doing well with Wasps, but I'd rather wait until he's a proven winner before he takes the Welsh job, I think he will get it at some point.Renniks wrote:Surely Wales can convince Dai Young to take over after this season finishes? I'd be more than happy if we offered big Vern a job, ASAP. In an ideal world, Gatland could stay down under afte the Lions, but that would cost us a fortune.

Re: Team for Scotland
Best of all, thanks to Roger Lewis, the coaching staff are contracted for another 2 years. So there is much more of this to come.
I think Gatland will walk as he will piss too many people off by taking 5 or 6 Welsh players on tour. Which leaves Howley in charge with the rest as the WRU won't afford to pay them all off.

I posted this a while back - I cant see any major changes until the next RWC. Too expensive and there has to be a valid candidate for the job. Vern Cotter may be (what is he doing next?) but most coaches are in this 4 year cycle now.

Stern Vern is signed up to coach Montpellier and maybe is thinking about the NZ after 2019.Sandydragon wrote:I posted this a while back - I cant see any major changes until the next RWC.
