It was combining those things, that we knew they were capable, with some very physical contact work that was so impressive. They played the game that Scotland have been telling people they're going to play.

The terrible red kit does look like a training kit. I liked the change kit we had in 2011.

Talking of Woodward there was a great anecdote from Tinds in a recent podcast going back to the days of Brian Ashton as England backs coach. Ashton had devised a move that took advantage of Catt's ability to hurl a pass underarm 60m or so, which when Clive saw he went mad about and told them they couldn't use it because it looked wrong. Tinds shaking his head considered it possibly the best move he's ever seen and when they'd run it in training against a very good England defence it scored every time. Team Woodward thinking for the win!

Nice to see how Adams has settled in. He was on fire for Worcester but I wasn’t sold he’d be able to step t up.

Wainwright is fun to watch.

I keep opening this thread, thinking someone's said something relevant to England vs Argentina.

Any idea why this has to be the match thread for Wales vs Aus, rather than the actual match thread for Wales vs Aus? or even the actual thread for matches unworthy of their own threads?

Hey - you either don't read threads very carefully, or your memory is failing you somewhat! - there were about a dozen posts here by others before my Wales post, regarding SA, Nam, Jap, Ire matches.There are loose colonial connections between Eng and these places, but not much relevance to Eng-Arg it would appear...

{Mod} I have to agree with Which - there was a match thread about it already (indeed a whole board dedicated to Welsh rugby) and this is both derailing a thread that has a purpose and putting spoilers up in a place where people could reasonably expect them not to be. Not everyone can watch a game live and, speaking as someone who used to work retail and thus be busy on a Sunday, I'd've been pissed off to come onto a thread that's been 90% England vs Argentina chat to find it's been turned into an unnecessary second match thread.

I have deleted the posts today for that reason. While we do meander a lot naturally on here, please let's refrain from completely co-opting a useful thread a propos of nothing, especially for a purpose that is already served elsewhere on the board. Apart from anything else, if you have a new conversation topic that is completely unrelated to an existing thread, it is possible to start a new thread - we're not the Scottish board.

NB. Galfon raises a reasonable point that other games have blended into this thread. There is the General Rugby Forum which needs love, or you can start an "Other Games" thread if you don't feel safe leaving the EMB without a chaperone.

It’s a fair comment, but also it’s very likely discussion (on topic) will change based on other results. X beat Y so we’re likely to play Y, who do we select? etc.

Part of me thinks the boards separated by nations don’t help here. Might as well just be one big board when the World Cup is on, with dedicated match threads, but that’s probably hard to do.

Noted, although that discussion is not very likely to arise in the course of conversation about how we're going to play Argentina. I'm not going to be a d*ck about enforcing a spoilers policy, but keeping things vaguely on topic will help people out.

I understand the frustration arising from stumbling across posts discussing other WC games, but that's nothing compared to the angst of those misled into believing this was a thread dedicated to sport clothing and associated accessories. Could have been the perfect thread to shoehorn in Duncan Taylor's hair.

Am I allowed to mention the howling reception that Jones got when his face came up on the big screen at the Aus v Wales match? Such vitriol might not suggest that we have the best head coach. Or, it might suggest that we have, I suppose.

Jones was there to assess our possible QF opponents, I read. I think we might have to adapt to cope with the turnover potential of either back row. Curry/Underhill or Wilson/Curry for the job? I hope that Jones makes a decision on that and sticks to it for the remaining pool games. They need to be sharp and practised together.

Mind you, I still maintain the lack of cohesion in our XV through Jones not getting it fixed before the warm-up games could cost us dear. It is a gamble to only finalise his best team at this stage.
